Hi

I wonder if someone would be able to help - trying to find out exact date of my step daughters parents marriage - we know it was 2000 but not exact date, step daughter can't ask her mum as it would cause issues and her dad cannot remember ( its a man thing !! ) and we are trying to fill in her passport
Sorry for the randomness

Is this in England or Wales?

A lookup will only tell you what quarter the marriage was registered

You would need to buy the marriage certificate for the exact date

A 2000 marriage would be listed by month, not quarter. So that would narrow it down.

Most marriages are on Saturdays so that would give you 4 or 5 dates to chose from.

Try calling the church or registry office.

My daughter is using her dads birth cert to apply for her passport which also means she has to send our marriage cert as well

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 2 Apr 2014 10:56

Does she have living grandparents, or aunts/uncles who might remember?

It does sound as if the church/reg office are the best people to approach, especially if you can explain the reason. You aren't supposed to(?) order a copy through the GRO on-line unless you know the exact date***

*** see Jax post below

I thought that was just for birth certificates

My apologise Jax - yes you're right.

From the GRO site

"You will be prompted to supply further details for more recent births and deaths (within the last 50 years) as you complete the online application form."

No mention of marriages

BEST TO SPEND £9.25 FOR THE MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE

if it is LOCAL you could perhaps get it quicker from the registry office rather than on-line

If you sent the data I will get the reference numbers etc
