Thank you for all this- working through.
Hey, Joonie, would that life was so simple. I agree personal contact is best but not always possible. Yes, I did contact Reg's granddaughter and her mother and we are now in regular touch via Skype.
Margee, again thank you so much-will follow up leads!

well found Margee

and again probably fairly easy to find family

(remembering Colin that for any family tree you share, whether privately or on line, you should have living people's permission to include them in the tree)

you have the obituary of Reginald's wife in the other thread

this is Arthur's obituary naming family

http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/ottawacitizen/obituary.aspx?pid=157253110

found by simple google search, like the info in the other thread

one of those names is easily found in the telephone directory

there is 1 Charters listing

http://www.canada411.ca/search/?stype=si&what=charters&where=Ottawa+ON

and there are 6 Charter listings

http://www.canada411.ca/search/?stype=si&what=Charter&where=Ottawa+ON

in Ottawa at present, it might not be too difficult to contact them and ask whether they are related?

but if Robert and Ethel May didn't have sons, they could only be related to a brother of Robert at the closest

Carleton is the county that Ottawa was in

birth info in Canada is generally sealed for 100 years but death info is available more recently

here are the deaths of three children of the couple in childhood in the 1920s, name is shown as Charter and Charters in different records

http://tinyurl.com/k9cwwxh

the 1921 Canadian census is free at ancestry.ca

this is the household in Ottawa in that year

Robert Charter 28
Ethel Charter 27
Arthur Charter 3
Reginald Charter 2

so they did have two sons who are not among the childhood deaths, do you know of their later history?

did you follow up on the contact from Reginald's granddaughter there??

being in touch with family is surely better than filling up a tree :-)

and also it is better to seek info about people from their family rather than on the internet ...

Trying to complete the family tree 'from a distance' is difficult! Can anyone help me find out information (birth, marriage, etc) on Muriel Charter and Maud Charter, both children of Robert and Ethel May Charter(s) They would have been born late 1920's or at latest early 1930's.
