and there is that, Anthony not being a total newbie ...

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 9 Apr 2016 17:27

Curious that Anthony hasn't returned to explain what he's looking for.

JoonieCloonie

JoonieCloonie Report 7 Apr 2016 00:19

that's true, MM, but that person's name wasn't offered by Anthony.

That's what I meant when I said that if I named my grandfather's maternal aunts and uncles and asked for help finding their descendants, it wouldn't mean I wanted my grandfather's obituary (name) and his immediate family members' names posted here.

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 6 Apr 2016 22:17

I understand what you're saying, Joonie, but as I said the obit is already on the internet for all to see.

My husband's obit is on the internet, not posted by me but by the funeral home. It lists his wife, children, grandchildren and sister, all living. Anybody can see it by just googling his name.

JoonieCloonie

JoonieCloonie Report 6 Apr 2016 20:21

I think when families put info in obits, they often do not realize it ends up permanently on the internet. And not all family members named are consulted about whether they want that done with their personal info.

(My mum has put her children's names on her and my dad's joint gravestone, and I wasn't thrilled to see that! :-) especially since total strangers have taken personal info about my family that I shared with a distant cousin found at this site, I naively thought privately, that those strangers got when they were given access to her tree and stuck in their own, so my parents and even myself have appeared in trees of people no relation at all to me. And now I can be found named at findagrave, even though I'm not dead.)

If I posted here looking for descendants of my grandfather's maternal aunts and uncles in Kent, born before 1900, whom I named, it wouldn't mean that I wanted my grandfather's obituary naming him and my father and my father's siblings posted here. I like to be able to research my family without disclosing my or living third parties' personal details. I think most of us do.

For a search like this, we do usually answer by saying things like Jane Doe (who is deceased) married John Smith (who is deceased) in 1940, and had 3 children whose names can be found at freebmd.

I would not have deleted the obit, simply deleted the names of living people.

I do think it is info Anthony is well aware of anyway, as the people are his wife's more or less immediate family.

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 6 Apr 2016 19:33

JC, I could never understand why it's considered inappropriate to post an obituary here that contains the names of living family members when that same obit is already posted online for all to see. However I have deleted it.

JoonieCloonie

JoonieCloonie Report 6 Apr 2016 18:55

since Anthony's wife is descended from Frederick Lawrence SHERWOOD and Miriam Elsie KEATLEY

I suspect he is familiar with their lives and with son Charles Edward Sherwood's family in Canada -- Charles's obituary mentions one sister I imagine Anthony is also familiar with

The obituary can be read here

http://www.ckdr.net/charles-edward-sherwood

(and Margaret I don't really think it is appropriate to post the contents showing the names of living family members here)

Anthony also appears to have full ancestral information ...

Unfortunately Anthony's post reads like an announcement rather than a request for information or assistance

so hopefully he will return and explain what info he has and what info he is looking for.

This seems to be the family in 1921. Although it says he was born US the original shows US was crossed out and changed to England.

Is there someone specific you are looking for Anthony, and something in particular we could help with?

since you have posted in 'Find Living Relatives', are you looking for descendants of Frederick's siblings, for example?

can you tell us what searches you may have done, so people don't duplicate your work?

someone at this site has Frederick Sherwood 1894 Sutton Coldfield in their tree

Sutton Coldfield is in Aston reg dist where your Frederick Sherwood was born in 1894

do you know the person who has that tree?
