Hi all I am trying to find the whereabouts of my cousin Susan.
Her father was Ernest Griffiths and I believe her mother was Alice Elizabeth nee Bluck.
Her father was my father Alfred John Griffiths younger brother. We have not been in contact for over 40 years. Any information on her whereabouts would be good news

Start with ‘search all member trees’.

What research have you done yourself?

You can get accurate parental info by using freebmd

Susan was born in Warwickshire in the summer of 1957. But there seem to be quite a few with the same name. Which makes searching for her difficult.

Many thanks to you for helping. I know Griffiths is a difficult name to research in the Birmingham area. The details you gave regarding Susan's parents are my uncle and aunt.

The Susan E Griffiths who married in 2004, as mentioned by Shirley, was born 1966-68, according to the ER on Ancestry.

I see that you have included Susan's details in your GR tree. You can't have obtained her permission

Someone other than you has Alice Bluck in his tree -= are you in contact?

Thiught the marriage was only a possibility

So can only suggest getting the later death cert for the parent

Are there rules about posting people on your tree? I haven't read that anywhere. I just assumed if they were still living (Ie you have clicked the living box) they wouldn't show to anyone else. Am I wrong?

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 7 Feb 2022 20:25

Yes, you are wrong to assume they can’t be seen. That was how I knew Alana had put her in her tree

The site’s guidelines say that one must have permission from any living person to include their details in a tree on here. Not sure how one accesses the guidelines these days - GR’s admin is virtually non-existent

"Members must have permission to add the names of any living relations to their tree."

https://www.genesreunited.co.uk/help/faqs?key=270

Also -

"You can opt to hide the details of living relatives in your tree. Please click here to be taken to the page to do this. You must choose 'yes' next to 'Hide living relations' and then save the changes.
This now means that the following will happen:
Any individual in your family tree with a year of birth within 120 years, and who has no date of death recorded in the tree, will be shown in the tree as hidden – this replaces the name usually shown in the tree. This also includes your own entry. All of their details will be hidden, including photos.

>>>>>> Please note that even if you have privatised your tree, the full names and details of the privatised names will appear in search results for other members. "<<<<

https://www.genesreunited.co.uk/help/faqs?key=110

The names are only hidden on your tree, not on search results.
Crazy, I know!

It is interesting that the guidelines on GR are different to how Ancestry view tree data.

Without boring members with the full details:-
In an email reply to my question I was advised that if a record was in the "Public Domain" Ancestry would not act to have the data removed.
