Message on my local Church FB page St James Ashworth.

'We have a lady trying to discover if there are any descendents of her great grandfather still living in the area. He was called Andrew Captain Lees, married to Martha Kaye and they lived at Yates Farm. He is buried in our churchyard.'

I've had a search and found the family at Yates Farm Ashworth/Birtle/Bamford, district of Heywood or Bury, and have the censuses for 81, 91, 01, 11.

Andrew is in quite a few trees on Ancestry. One is by his great grandson but doesn’t seem to be active. I’ve not checked them all.

Thank you kindly for your efforts. I've left a message for the lady to get back to me. It sounds as though there may be descendents still in the area. Once she does get back to me I'll ask around the farming folk, they tend to have long memories.

FORMER reservoir keeper John Lees Howarth died on Monday at Bury General Hospital. He was 73 and lived at Rochdale Road Eden-field.
He leaves his wife Alice. His funeral is on Monday when the Rev D Dawson will conduct a service at the chapel of rest Ramsbottom before cremation at Rochdale. Funeral director: R Wolstenholme for Booth and Wolstenholme .

It doesn't sound as if they had children - certainly none were born in Heywood RD, or Bury or Rochdale.
