Well Ian, looks like you may have stumbled on your board name? Een, is definitely one that would stand out.

I have been known to get my youngest kids name tangled together, Robigail was not a name that my son Robbie liked to be called, but he did answer me, lol!!

Could be, I'll check it out. I note yet another different spelling for GGM's name. Mind you, she always used to call me 'EEN', so no surprise.

That's the one I've tracked, but he's listed as Labourer, so I need to find out when he left the Marines in order to confirm. I'll be following up many of the leads listed here over the next few weeks.

There's a William Morley on the National Archives site, born 1862. Nearest I can find. Royal Marine Artillery, enlisted 1881. You can search here and it costs £3.36 to download a record

the brief information I have is - born Boston Lincs 1864, Married Clara Kesley of Yately, Hampshire (not yet traced when or where), 1891 census has them living at 2 Valetta Terrace, Portsea. SON Arthur born 1896, but by 1901 census widow Clara is living in Spalding.

I wouldn't bother with the Forces War records site. His record, though, may be available for download from the National Archives site for a small fee.

What was his date of birth and where did he live?

looks like you can find him here, but I think you might have to pay

I'm researching my maternal great grandfather, William Morley, who was in the Royal Marines. Searches so far seem to indicate the Royal Marine Artillery. I have him in the 1891 census, but his wife is widowed by 1901. How can I check his record?
