It WAS this man - John Preston Wilson - his Army records are on Ancestry. Married Margaret Iowes (?) in 1911. Children John Preston, Alma, Joseph Preston and another - can't make out the name

I think this is likely to be JP Wilson. He wasn't a Marine, he was in the Royal Engineers

He was HENRY when he married in 1921

J P Wilson's probable death is on one of the other threads - he was a Marine

And only 70% of WW1 records survived......so the chances of finding this man's are limited, to say the least

I am sorry if I have confused any member
I have only posted one thread for my grandad Henry/Harry poynton died 1979, born 1897. Died in Gateshead but think born Murton
I just wanted to do my family tree for my grandchildren so they can have a record of my past
I appreciate your reply and apologise if I keep getting it wrong

So if you know he served with a John Wilson, do you know the regiment John Wilson in.

Or I can check on the CWGC site to find John Wilson,any idea when he died ?

I have a line of Henry's going back to the early 1800's all were known as by the nickname Harry and as far as im aware all used the birth name Henry on official documents apart from some census's

He married my grandma in Gateshead but I think he came from Murton in co Durham my mum told me he was in the somn :-S

WW1 records are on Ancestry, if you don't subscribe please give some more details, when & where born etc.

I have looked and there are some possibles , but without more detail he cannot be identified.

But please be aware that 70% of these records were destroyed by enemy action in WW2, so its always a bit of luck for those that survive.

The above gentleman is my grandfather and served in the First World War how can I search for his records :-(
