Some war diaries are available now on the national archives web site

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/war-diaries-ww1.htm

His medal card is also listed on TNA

Medal card of Furby, Thomas. Corps Regiment No Rank King's Royal Rifle Corps, Regiment No R/19841, Rank, Private.

It costs £3.36 to download or someone could look for it on ancestry

also use Google for info

from a google search

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Cambrai_(1917)

http://pages.123-reg.co.uk/jerryandjanet-526112/thegreatwar/id3.html

If you put
cambrai ww1
into google, many interesting sites appear that look well worth reading.

I would recommend, too, that you subscribe (free) to
http://1914-1918.invisionzone.com/forums/
and one can read about the battle in:
http://www.1914-1918.net/bat21.htm
