Medal cards listed on the National archives web site

5 for the name Alfred Brookes Warwickshire regiment with no middle name and one has a middle inital "C"

13 for a Alfred H Brookes none in the Warwickshire regiment

and 197 with verious middle names

Just be aware that abt 60/70% of service records for WW1 where distroyed in WW2 bombings but most of the medal cards survived because they where stored at a separate location so with a regiment and regimental number it's possible to find his medal card, and also look on Ancestry to see if his service record or pension records survived

Dave,
to pin him down Who did he marry? was it Elizabeth Jones?, If so then it's probable that he is the one born Aston Warwickshire because their is a marriage that fits in the June quarter 1918 and so a good chance his military details are recorded on the marriage cert under Occupation

Ok it looks like it is Herbert not Henry sorry about that i was going on info given me by mouth .As he was born in ASTON

Are you sure about the birth year and location and his middle name,

The only birth that fits with Birmingham is for a Alfred Herbert Brookes in Aston Warwickshire

Or a Alfred Henry Cheltenham Gloucestershire

Trying to find Alfred army records born Alfred H Brookes 1897 Birmingham could have been in the Warwickshires been told he was a Vimey ridge i just cant seem to pin him down anywhere on ww1 records .
