Hello Anybody
I can find no mention of my grandfather in the 1891 census. I know that he was in the army around that time, probably in the Gordon Highlanders. Looking at military records using his name, I get no "hits" at all. Has anyone any suggestions to help me find out where he was in 1891. I can find him in all other Censuses during his lifetime. Thanking anyone in anticipation.

They seem to have spent a lot of time in India and Afghanistan, which would explain why he isn't on the 1891 census.

There is lots of info if you Google.

Answer to Maryb
My grandfather was called John Turnbull, born in Aberdeenshire probably in 1870 tho' some of the earlier census details say different years. He definitely died in 1919 being a serving police officer in the Lancashire force. My grandmother told me that he was 49 when he died. If this helps anyone to help me then thanks in anticipation.
