According to a tree on Ancestry, he married Amelia Norton (no source and I cannot find a marriage); their first child was a Margaret, b1850, Isle of Man. One other child, Thomas James, b1854, Dublin. Is this your family, David?

this is him in 1851

Name: James Anderson
Age: 32
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1819
Gender: Male
Where born: Yarmouth, Norfolk, England
Civil Parish: Scarborough
Town: Scarborough
County/Island: Yorkshire
Country: England
Registration district: Scarborough

the image shows him as an unmarred private in the 46th regiment

so he had a short time to marry and have a child/ren

possibly at age 32 he was married already and the census entry was just sloppy recording

Hello David, which of his children was your direct ancestor?

Who was James' wife and where/when did they marry? You'll probably have more chance of finding his father's name from a marriage certificate and then working back from that.

Welcome to the boards David.

Since civil registration only started in 1837 there won't be a birth certificate so the best you can hope for is a baptism.

I need some help finding the birth info fo my 2x G grand father, James Anderson. Born in Great Yarmouth Norfolk in 1820 and was a private in the 46th foot, number 1401. He died in the great storm in 1854 in the crimea.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
