Could anyone please help me find a marriage certificate for Percival Aldridge to Florence Hassall (could be Wright) (could be Day). I think they were married about 1940 give or take a year or two. They were married somewhere near Aylesbury. Not much info I'm afraid.
Hope someone can help.

Thank you everyone for trying. I know my grandmother had his name - it was on her passport etc. Maybe she just changed her name? I keep hitting brick walls with anything I try to find re my grandparents and their ancestors.
I will keep trying, thank you.

What was your grandmothers name and when and where was she born? Have you got her birth cert?

I havnt found a marriage for my aunt in 1940 on Ancestry. Her marriage is on the local reg office site..I suggest you contact the Aylesbury office or where ever the marriage would have been registered

Just googled and there is a Buckinghamshire family history society

Thank you Margaret. My grandmother was born Florence Ellen Day in Lytham 1896. That is all confirmed.
She first 'married' a John Wright. Had two children from that marriage. One died young, the other in 1990. I know where his daughter (my half cousin) is and am waiting on communication from her.
Florence's second 'husband' was my mother's father James Hassall. This is where all the problems re finding any information start. They went to Canada and my mother was born in Toronto so any 'marriage' could have been there. They returned to England about 1928.
Sometime after James died in 1936 is where Percival Aldridge (born 1877) starts. They supposedly went off and got married but didn't tell anyone where etc. This was about 1939/1940. They were living in Aylesbury at the time so it was somewhere nearby. They stayed 'married' and together until Percival died in 1950 in NZ. I have their passports and Florence had the surname Aldridge on that. I can only assume that she could have just changed her name.
My ancestors are really like looking for a needle in a haystack!
I will keep trying though, one day something will crop up.
I am visiting UK in July and will be seeing the few family members I have there, so am hoping more info will come from someone.
I will try going to places anyone recommends for me to look up records.
Thank you for your help.
Regards, Carole

Hi Carole.
If you have a passport for Florence in the name of Aldridge then she must have married. Its an official document so you need proof of birth and marriage.

Its possible they married in Canada if they had a child there. You could run a thread for a marriage look up in Canada. There are several Canadian members on GR.
Are you in NZ.?Im in Auckland

Hi Margaret. Thank you for your reply. I am in Australia now but was born in Auckland.
I'll keep searching re the Aldridge marriage.
My mother was from the 'relationship' with James Hassall. I have just ascertained my grandmother travelled to Canada under the surname Wright, so there was no Hassall marriage in England. I have tried to check Canada marriages but no luck, but not in this section of GR. I will do so but my gut feeling is they weren't married. James Hassall died in 1936.
It all becomes a tangled web, doesn't it.
Thanks for your input.
Regards, Carole
