My mother's half sister Annie Elizabeth Cox born 1905 in Clerkenwell (Holborn registration district) sailed off to New York 17th. April 1928 from Southampton aboard the Olympic.

Her sister Ada Pretoria Cox (born 1900) had married Thomas Delahunty in London in 1920 and sailed to New York in 1921 (also on the Olympic) .....address at arrival 164 11th Ave NY.

I would assume that Annie (who wasn't married when she sailed) went to live with Ada and Thomas Delahunty upon her arrival in New York.

This is all I know about her, so if anyone could find any information about her once she arrived in America I would be most grateful.

Sue

Thank you Suzanne, but that is not her. Both her parents were born in London and she was 23 when she left for America, and unmarried.

I assume that if she did marry (and I don't know if she did) it would have been in the US.

I appreciate you taking a look. Thanks again,

Sue

I don't see Annie or her sister and husband on the 1930 census. Is there a chance they returned to England?

Would you know more about Thomas, please (date and place of birth)? Perhaps their surname is incorrectly spelled.

Thank you Jim. Is it possible to view the original ships manifest on Ancestry? If so, I wondered if it would give the address she was going to be staying at in New York upon her arrival.

Again, many thanks for your help.

Thank you Lisa. I have quite alot of information on Thomas Delahunty. A few months ago I asked for help on here about him. Portland Rose found this 1930 which I think must be Thomas and Ada with their children.

Says Adeline was born in NY but her parents were English.

1930 United States Federal Census

If it is the correct family, obviously Annie wasn't with them at the time.

I have always known that Ada had a sister who also went to the US, but have only just found out that her name was Annie thanks to finding her in the 1911 UK census.

How easy is it to search for NY marriages? Or maybe it's not possible.

Thank you again.

Thank you Teresa. Yes a couple of possibilities on there, but I suspect she has a fairly common name and it would be impossible to know for sure if either of these is her.
