Family of my own at last

My Grandfather left England in 1912 for the distant shores of Australia and althouth I knew he had a brother and niece still there, all contact was lost after they all passed on.

I have tried to research his name before, I have always had problems because it is an unusual name and there seem not to have been many of them.

Imagine my delight after joining this site to have discovered through a Hot Match, one of his siblings decendants, family I never even knew about. (nor they about me) As an only child with a mother who was also an only child and grandparents from overseas, I had an isolated chilhood. You can not possibly know my joy at finding family to call my own. We even share a strong family resemblance, often noted by perfect strangers.

How wonderful and what a revelation! That was 2007. I met them in 2008 and stayed with them in 2009 at which time I met another of my cousins. This year I stayed with them again and between us we are continuing the family research. Now we know why we couldn't find the family before, it seems their names were changed, up to 4 times over 3 generations. Those who were illiterate must have suffered because of it.

Thanks Genes Reunited for giving me a new family.
