Two and a half years ago my wife who was adopted asked me to try and research her original birth family, all she knew was that the family name was Harrison. For two years using the basic Genes Reunited package I discovered who my wifes birth mother was and traced her movements up until the 1980's at which point she completely disappeared. At Christmas 2009 my family bought me a Genes Reunited gold membership which enabled me to carry out further research. In March of this year I discovered that her mother had emigrated to Australia in the'80's which was the reason that all trace of the family had disappeared. Thanks to G.R we have now found out that not only is my wifes mother still alive but my wife also has two sisters, one in Australia and one in the UK, previously unknown, and a whole new extended family. We are in touch with the whole family, especially Mum now on a regular basis and they are all absolutely amazed that they have an extended family, they didn't know any of us existed. Obviously there was a great deal of luck involved in the searches but none of it would have been possible without the records that GR hold, so many thanks. I am now trying to extend the family back into history and also trace missing members of my own family. One point I would make is that it seems to be far easier to go backwards in time than to come forward, I suppose it's not so usual to do this but overall a great experience which hopefully will only improve as more discoveries are made.
