Phil, I try various - za, uk etc; sometimes I have to sign in, sometimes I don't. As I posted before, I think, no other site requires me to sign in, and most to which I subscribe are free :)

I have taken to using za and since doing so am not experiencing any problems.

MaryMc - I know you mention your in NZ, but are you using the .co.uk site or the .co.nz site?

Would be interested to know if those others that are suffering badly, still suffer if they use the .co.za site instead?

Again, our sincerest apologies and thank you for your patience. We are continuing to investigate this as a major priority.

Hi Phil

Thanks for the update.

Don't think this is going to help much, but I don't visit this site through a bookmark or icon I type the address in everytime and still have the log in issue.

Fingers crossed though, yesterday and today I have logged on through za and have not had the same problems especially of having to log on again when changing boards,

Maybe your servers didn't want to go to Dundee and are missing their cosy London office :-D

Just so you're aware we're still looking at this, here's an update.

Firstly (and this isn't really the login issue, but it might make you think it is related), many of you might have some links in your favourites or a link on your desktop to take you to a specific page. Over the course of the last year, GR has been migrating it's code to a new structure, and we've tried to put in place things like automatic redirects etc. where possible, but in some cases this isn't. It has therefore left some of these old links direct to "error/maintenance" pages. I would thoroughly recommend removing any old links and resetting them. If anyone needs specific instructions on this task, we can gather them and post them on a help page.

Secondly, and again this is just a helper - not a solution, we migrated our servers from London to Dundee a couple of weeks ago. This should not have impacted yourselves as it was an internal thing. FannyByGaslight's comments are interesting as our za site is still running from the old servers (although latest code is deployed to it as well as the new servers), but wondering if there is an issue with this that is effecting a small number.

We also deployed a new code base at the same time, that involved a change in the use of our cookies. If you haven't already cleared your cookies and are willing to do so, then I would suggest taking this action.
Again, if guidance is needed we can post a help page (or redirect you to one if it exists already).

Other things you may like to try are switching pop-up blockers on/off, switching on/off ad blockers, etc.

Let everyone know if you have any success. I will post further updates as we investigate things through the day.

Regards Phil

Also from Canada

I have had no problem navigating within the site, have not been logged out while doing that, though I ahve had the Erro Message several times.

My problem is being logged out when I shut down the site, the computer, or turn the power off. It is intermittent

Plus the site does not remember my password even though I have ticked Remember Me.

I never log out of any site, unless the site itself decides to do that.

I do Disc Cleanup regularly every 2 or 3 days.

Using desktop PC

Access GR through my Favourites

Use Windows IE6

My computer will not remember any passwords because I changed my anti virus to a free one, so I am logging into all sites at the moment including GR

I have no problem logging in and staying logged on for 16 hours but I am forever getting maintenance messages for hours on end and only being able to view a few boards at a time.

I have Windows Vista, IE8

Earlier today I was going to do what Janey has done and put in my details for elimination purposes, as it had never happened to me!! I decided it would be tempting fate and clicked on the back arrow instead to return to the Suggestions page. I got the Error Page instead!!

After trying to get a different page I went and did something else, returning to GR after about 10 minutes. I was told to log-in, but didn't bother and exited the site for several hours. When I tried again, just now, I was already logged in, so it looks as though GR is showing people as logged out, when they aren't really.

I have Windows XP, IE8 and enter the site by using the drop-down menu at the top of the screen.

" ... each time they log in to the site they are also being asked to enter their password, this is despite having ticked the box to save their password last time they logged in." - exactly; except it is intermittent.

I log into GR.com.au from an icon on my desktop.

Use IE v8, Windows XP, service pack 3

Had to log in again this morning.
Before I clicked the GR icon I checked google mail and then A.

Monday (or was i yesterday) clicked submit and received the GR maintenance message. Lost the post and had to retype it.

Have not experienced problem of being taken back to the password screen while navigating around GR for a long time. Months in fact.
Naturally this phenonemon will now occur!!

Rose, can you post the url that your favourite is pointing to?

If you right click on it, then select properties you should find it. Just copy and paste back on here.

If it helps, though I can't tell you all the techie stuff,

I never log out of the site, and prior to this week the only time I have had to sign in and give password, is when my PC has closed unexpectedly.

I always shut down totally at end of day ( me and the PC lol)

Using IE8. I almost always access GR from 'favourites'...the only way I could get on earlier today was via NZ link.

Phil,

Reading some of the complaints about this I get the impression that your explanation 7 Jun 2011 14:39 is only dealing with part of the problem.

It isn't just when navigating around - people are also complaining that each time they log in to the site they are also being asked to enter their password, this is despite having ticked the box to save their password last time they logged in.
