Thanks Janey. That is helpful. Doesn't solve it but definitely interesting to take into consideration. Maybe it is your location and we should all move to Canada!

On the off chance it helps to know about someone who *never* has this happen (I did once a few months ago) ...

PC desktop, Windows XP

latest Firefox -- with Adblock and Noscript

I allow only the minimum necessary javascript noise on pages I use; for this one, it means that after experimenting a long time ago with what I had to allow, I have blocked (i.e. not unblocked, as I work on a block-everything default):

unanimis.co.uk
clicktale.net
imrworldwide.com
extrafeedback.appspot.com

I never ever log out, and I never close all GR tabs/windows
(so I actually still have tabs open from before the reorg, that have been restored multiple times when I restarted Firefox, e.g. some PMs from April I have yet to get around to answering ...)

I also almost never turn my computer off other than by the restart function (I put it to sleep sometimes)

When I have to close and restart Firefox because I have burned it out from overload (or restart my computer in order to install Windows updates or the like), every few days, I crash Firefox / restart Windows, and then select the restore windows and tabs option when I restart Firefox. I have never had to log back in to GR when I do this.

I have never used a bookmark (favourites in IE) to access GR.

I did clear my cache a couple of times last week, but I never clear my history, as I use it (and sometimes use the URL autocomplete in Firefox to access a GR page).

And of course, I'm in Canada, not that this makes any difference to anything. ;-)

Hello everyone. We are trying to recreate this error in the office and having little success. I know it is happening as I did experience it on my phone browser and also my home pc while I was replying to posts on the boards. However, we're trying to narrow things down, and looking for a little assistance from anyone willing to give it (so that we can get rid of this once and for all)

To be clear, the problem I am talking about is that when you are navigating around the site you are passed to the login screen and you have to enter your email and password again. [This is not relating to pages which ask you to re-enter your password - such as when you go to My Account - this is an intended reconfirmation page].

If you are still getting the problem above, could you reply in this thread with the following information:

What did you click on before it took you to the login page?

Briefly describe what actions you had been doing before that - i.e. searching x records, reading boards, updating account details.

And for clarification (although I don't believe it is browser related) - can you also say

if you're using PC, Mac, iPad, Mobile Phone
what browser you were using
what version of the browser you have (this is usually uinder the Help - About menu option)

Our full apologies for the annoyance with this problem, and thank you for your patience.

- Phil and Chris (developers)

Green pen

I am a platinum member which I believe is the most expensive membership !
What do I have to do to get auto log in ??

Not only that I keep getting this message

Error

Sorry. An error has occurred

We can't take you to the page you wanted. The problem has been logged and our team will be working on it.

Thanks for understanding. We're really sorry for any inconvenience!

Explain that !

Jane,

GR are aware and trying to come up with a solution. In any case, I don't think auto log-in is included in the service you are paying for.....! I couldn't find it anywhere in the t's and c's....lol

Perhaps Phil could advise how Remember Password is programmed to work? i.e. how much is dependent on the GR site itself, and how much on your browser settings and cookies?

We pay good money for this rubbish service.
I HAVE LOGGED IN ABOUT 10 TIMES TODAY ALREADY !!!!!!!!!

What do we have to do to get the service we pay for?

I will now go and log in again !!

I have closed the site down 3 times in the last approximately 8 hours since that last post

I have had to sign back in each time

and it doesn't even remember me, even though I have Remember Me ticked

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 6 Jun 2011 20:59

I did not have to log-in either time that I have accessed the site so far today

but I hate the "will it or won't it work" that I feel every single time I want to open the site

Argggh still getting logged out regularly.

Getting really annoying :-(

Joy

Joy Report 6 Jun 2011 18:33

This morning, I did not have to sign in.
This evening, I did have to sign in.

This is getting sillier. A fee-paying site should not contain so many glitches. Going to free ones where I do not experience this logging in problem.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 6 Jun 2011 08:32

It is intermittent and the last time I had to log in was when I tried to access my watched threads, even though I was already logged in on Gen chat.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 6 Jun 2011 08:28

You know I really can't be doing with this, I have already had to log in twice this morning in about half an hour using the boards. I do hope theya re going to get this sorted.

It is an intermittent ongoing problem of which genes reunited are aware and are trying to fix.

SylviaInCanada

IGP

that's exactly what I did on Friday.

It worked for the rest of that day ................ no need to log in anew when closing the site OR turning off the power

It did not survive overnight turn-off, so I had to log in anew yesterday morning.

However .......... I did not have to log in new a few minutes ago after last night's turning off

so it seems it is the luck of the draw!

Haven't had to log back in for over three days and sweet as a nut for yesterday and today.

All I did do was to delete favourites because the web addresses changed with the last lot of upgrades, re-create my main log in favourite from a fresh Google log in and cleared out my browser cache and history.

Joy

Joy Report 4 Jun 2011 22:54

Just adding - searching for any updated or new version of site, adding to favourites, removing from favourites etc did not work. It is a current glitch in the site.
No problems elsewhere.
