I wonder if people with 20,000 posts and who use "My Threads" a lot are more prone to get these errors.

Well two error messages in under 5 mins.

Strange that Ken mentions "My Threads" as that is exactly what I was trying to do when I got the error messages.

I've found things better for the last 2 days

............... hope I don't jinx myself now :-D ................


but I am now having problems with my Messages ........

...... I cannot open 2 messages in succession without having to go out of Inbox, and then re-entering.


The second message just will not open


then the 3rd message will not open until I leave and re-enter


and on and on and on

Just logged on to site.

Tried My Threads and straight away got the error message.

Same thing again

Looks as if I will have to stop using My Threads if I am going to get error messages everytime

The speed has been much better in the last few days.

However, the error still appears randomly ie clicking on messages (in and sent), going from board to board, my threads, utterly randomly any time anywhere; I go back top left and usually okay again, but there should be no error message at any time anyway :-|
The error does not occur in any other site.

Joy, the message will occur randomly as it is caused by a timeout. That is going to depend on what is happening between your PC and the Genes servers. Error messages such as that are good because the system handles them and continues to function. That is much better than waiting for a result which might never come.

I have had errors on other sites (e.g. freeBMD and the site that shall not be named) when actions timeout. Also I occasionally have to sign in unexpectedly when using that other site and the BBC message boards.

The thing I do notice is that the people the error happens most often to, have got over 20,000 posts to their credit. That implies that they have a large number of threads and that they use the system a lot and are therefore more likely to experience faults.

When you use My Threads, the system has to find your threads and sort them in order of last posting, at best the time taken is proportional to the number of threads.

It could be that Genes thread sorting relies for speed on threads latest postings being for the latest initiated threads. In that case it might mean that long running threads and old threads with recent postings affect the timing significantly.

But, Ken, it happened instantly so how could it be a timeout? (says she with little IT knowledge ;-))

I have not had errors in free BMD nor ancestry nor find my past nor family tree forum, nor digital spy, nor any other sites :)

btw I would love to reduce the number of posts and maybe one day we will be able to get into our threads again seeing individual posts so be able to remove them (as we could not so very long ago).

PS we can name other sites, Estelle said so.

Just logged onto site.

Clicked on My Threads and got the error message.

Not sure about timeouts either.

Majority of my threads are lookups for members so can not really reduce the number of threads I have posted on.

Same as Joy I am not having problems with other sites.

I find it quite daft if each time I click on my threads that the error thing appears :-| (twice just now).

It really should be possible to click on my threads, no matter how many there are, without the error appearing

Click on My Threads and got the error message.


Strange not had problems with error messages just recently except for when trying to use My Threads

Really getting annoying now.

Just to be clear ......


I do not get an Error message with my In Box


Literally nothing happens when I try to open a second message after having successfully opened one, and responded to it.

I then go back to the In Box, click on the next message to read, and ................. NADA


No matter how many times I click on that second message there is NO action, and no sign of any action taking place.

Must admit l have trouble changing from one thread to another or sending a post, very slow. But not had any errors for a few days.
