The date of the commencement of this thread says it all !!!

21st October, 2011 !!!

This same problem has been going on since then, and beyond !!!!!!!!!!!!

I am REALLY losing patience now !

What I would really like to ask is WHY WERE THERE NO ERROR MESSAGES GOING ON DURING THE WEEKEND WHEN GR HAD IT'S 'SPECIAL WEEKEND' WDYTYAlive the other week ???????????

Apologies for 'shouting' but I think that is a very relevant question.

If they can keep it clear at 'important times' for them, why cannot they sort the problem permanently ???

Please sort out the problems on this site

To return to Home Page - click on GR Logo produces error message

When on Home Page - click on Community - error messages.
Click on a board - error messages
Click on a thread - error messages
Click on a page number on a thread - error messages

Think you get the idea of the scale of this problem as these error messages were all in the last 10 mins.

Must have been a guard at that side door.

Tried again........ NINE times I entered email & password......... spaces went blank.

Tried again......... Error Message, went back
Tried again..........Error Message, went back
Tried again..........Error Message, went back ...... and went straight to GR, no sign in

Makes no sense at all.

My friend can sign in with no problems, using the SAME computer.

Fingerprints or eye prints? gggrrrrrrrrrrr - might be boot prints soon.

I'm totally fed up with this site. It doesn't do what they promise, and the "Help" / Customer service is a joke; but I'm not laughing.

must be your fingerprints or your eye print :-D :-D

I got in the side door............ forget the main sign in page......... go to Community.............. sign in here to post reply.......... it worked!

But...... yesterday my friend (visiting for a few weeks) got in immediately. She signed out, I tried to sign in, no joy.

So the GR idea that it's OUR fault, is rubbish. We sat at the SAME computer......... she got in, I didn't. Why?

:-S :-S :-S :-S :-S

I got in first time, about 5 minutes ago .......using Mozilla Firefox

This whole situation is now beyond a joke.

I have been using the GR.com.au site this afternoon without a problem. It hasn't redirected me to the .com.uk site at all so why Catherine it keeps happening to you is a mystery.

A mystery that will probably remain unsolved.

I’ve been trying all day to sign in.

I typed GRetc.com.au and was taken to GRetc.co.uk.

My friend is here, she also has a GR tree…… typed her email address and password, Straight in. So much for the GR theory that it’s MY computer.

Why can I not sign in and someone else can sign in, using the SAME computer?

But....... this is the response I received from GR re my problem signing in:

" Thanks for your email.

I am sorry to hear that you are having problems accessing the site.

Your registration appears to be working correctly now, I have just tested this and have successfully logged into the site using your login details.

Please click on the following link:

http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/home/default.aspx and in the login section enter the following:

Email address: XX
Password: XX

If you are accessing the site from a bookmark or a favourite page then this might be why you are having problems. Please could you remove this old link? Then go to www.genesreunited.co.uk and enter your sign in details and you will be able to log in. You can then add this page to your bookmarks or favourites page again.

I hope this helps. "

It DIDN'T help.

How many times do I have to tell them I don't live in UK? :-\ :-\ :-\

Why did they give me my email & password? I already know them...... or do they believe I am so stupid that I may forget them?

Did GR change my registration from Australia to UK? If so, WHY??

When I type genesetc.comau......it changes to uk......... WHY? WHY? WHY?

Does being registered in UK and typing AU make a difference? Should it?

Maybe I moved to UK and didn't notice?

WHY can't I get a SENSIBLE answer from GR??

Nope, I was reading the message the time, fingers not on the keyboard. I scrolled down......... and the message vanished.

Mind you, I was half asleep, very annoyed & probably having a senior moment.

This morning........... took 15 minutes to sign in.

SIX attempts

Error Message

clicked Logo, got sign in page for UK

enter email & password........

Error Message

Click Logo (why does it say to send a message to GR via Help? Impossible, because I'm trying to get to the Home Page!!!!!!) :-S

Sign in again.......
Error Message......... click Logo
Error Message...........click Logo
Error Message.......... click Logo :-S :-S :-S

Give up................ out of site completely...... type genesetc.com.au ......... get taken to genesetc.co.uk........... go out again..............

Finally got here.

I GIVE UP.

I'M NOT USING THIS SITE AGAIN UNTIL IT WORKS PROPERLY.

I will try to sign in, but I don't want (shouldn't need to) go through all this rubbish every time.

Too much to ask that GR would extend my membership for the time I can't use it?

Catherine

Losing your post might actually NOT be anything to do with GR ..... it might be an accidental issue of your typing.

I've had this happen to me many times, on several sites, not just GR.

I have come to the conclusion that it happens most often when I am typing a long piece, thinking deeply about what I am saying, and not concentrating on how my fingers are placed.

I think what happens is that I go to hit one of the keys to the left of the keyboard ............... eg, a, s, z, x, possibly also d and c

If your finger(s) are slightly flatter than usual, then part of the pad can make contact with another key ........ CTRL, START or ALT

I think that contact can result in the post disappearing into cyberspace.

why should the two addresses work so differently ??????

oh yes .................. and .co.uk finally worked, when I wasn't watching it ......... and I am now in GR on both sites :-)

I AM REALLY FED UP! :-P

This is my second attempt at posting - halfway through typing it disappeared............ off into cyberspace? :-P

I've been sending emails (daily) to GR, letting them know I'm having problems signing in. They sent an email to my friend (not to me), passing on a "fix". Fixed things..... yeah right.

I used the fix. Then typed genesreunited.com.au....... and saw the address change to co.uk. Tried again, kept getting uk. Why? Rebooted, decookied, defragged, rebooted....... tried again......... persisted for ages.......... eventually tried to sign in to the UK site. TWELVE attempts later I gave up.

Sent another email to GR. No reply as yet, so I'll have to put up with this for at least the weekend. :-P

All the above was this morning........... it is now almost 3am and I have insomnia, so I thought I'd try again.

Repeat of earlier performance.......... com.au changes to co.uk :-| :-| :-|

Kept trying.......... eventually got to the site.............. TEN attempts (I think it was ten, my mind is going with all this frustration). :-\ :-\ :-\

Shambles? It's not that good. :-(

Come on GR, get back to the basics and fix things. THEN look at adding "extras". You can't build anything without a good foundation.......... and yours is crumbling.

:-P :-P :-P :-P :-P :-P :-P

When you look at site such as Ancestry, how come they do not seem to have these error problems?

I can count on one hand the times that Ancestry has been down in the last eight years. Seems to me the server that GR use, does not have the capacity to run a small office!

I am well peed orf with this shambles of a website :-|

Jonesey

Jonesey Report 2 Mar 2012 07:43

Looks like a whole tribe of Gremlins have taken up residence within the GR software. I too have experienced similar problems to those already mentioned by others so not really worth listing them individually.

It would appear that either the software or the servers (Or both) currently in use are not fit for purpose. Every attempt by GR staff to try to resolve one error seems to result in at least one other error appearing. The danger from GR's perspective must surely be that each disruption can only damage the site's reputation and further frustrate and anger GR's members. Ultimately those members patience will run out and they will decide that enough is enough and cease to be paying members.

I am really fed up now.

SEVEN attempts to sign in........ kept getting blank spaces to sign in again.

Typed genesreunited.com.au.......... and got genes UK - again!

Tried au again...... and got Error Message......... clicked on GR logo....... waited, waited........... hohum........... waited.......... and got UK again.

Is there any point in sending yet another message to the "Help" people? They will just reply with the usual blah blah blah
