;-)

Certainly did not seem to make any difference which ever is showing when entering the site

"Joy, do you always enter GR via the Home page? If so why not try entering directly to one of the board pages.

There is less work for the system to do to display those, so less chance of a timeout."

Sometimes :)
But a customer should not have to work out ways of getting in without errors, n'est ce pas?

Strange Ken but I altered from a board page which it went to automatically because I did not logout of site, to home page because that was suggested by another member a few weeks ago.

I've been having a "conversation" with GR since Monday last week re the difficulty of opening My Threads in particular

...... had replies from 4 different staff last week, each of whom wanted more or different information.

The 4th said she had tried unsuccessfully to replicate by problem using IE8 and Chrome....... so would I tell her my browser, etc

I had said in the pevious email, obviously not read!, that I used Mozilla Firefox.

I replied saying how exasperating and frustrating it was to always get into the circle.

Today, I got this from Estelle:-

"we are really sorry for all the problems you have been having. All of the details ahve been passed on to Phil and the tehnical team. You are not the only one experiencing these error messages. Phil will take a look at this when time allows. As I am sure you udnerstand our technical team are very busy. They are quite a small team and work on problems in order of priority.

I am very sorry for the inconvenience."

-------------------------

I replied as follows:-

"I do understand that the development team is very busy. But it is also very frustrating when all these problems are not being sorted, and corrected.

It does, however, seem to me that having a correctly operating system, with problems experienced by members being corrected, would be of higher priority than is seemingly the case. After all, many of these problems have been on-going for almost 6 months.

I know of many members who have given up in disgust, and left the site. I'm still hanging in there ........ but even my patience is running out!

I know what GR can do .................. and am still hoping that it will soon be back to that."

-----------------

now to wait again ........... and again .............. 'cos it is upto the development team!

Sylvia,

That smacks of you having lost your connection to GR. Either the site itself blipped off-line or you internet connection dropped out. I have been getting similar this week as my ISP has been playing up a bit and dropping its connection.

A different issue to the

"Error
Sorry. An error has occurred.....! etc one.

About an hour, I got the Error message when I was trying to post an edited message.

Then I couldn't close the thread (1 page only)

Then got the Error Message when trying to move from the Find Ancestors board to Community

Closed site down

tried re-entering from Bookmarks ............... Error

Tried entering by googling GR then clicking on one of their listings ......... Error

Tried putting GR url in search ..... Error

Finally wen to genesreunited.co.za ........... which is why I am now able to post this message!

and that was probably about the same time that wisechild was also having problems!

It is the same problem that has been plaguing the site for some time. Nothing to do with the current round of changes it is simply that the servers are timing out whenever the volume of data that needs to be processed by the operation you have requested is large.

It can happen anywhere on the site, but is more noticeable when requesting operation such as opening my threads, when you have thousands of them, moving from page to page in threads which have a lot of postings, moving within names summary in large trees - the list is endless.

The problem is it is not exactly a bug or error in the coding which by comparison is something that is easily fixed, nor does it always replicate when someone else tries the same operation. This why GR say, quite correctly, that they can't replicate the error for one specific operation if you report it to them.

GR developers have said they are aware of the issues but perhaps could be more forthcoming with regular updates as to the actions they are taking to resolve them, which is likely to be a combination of strategies such as increasing the size and power of the servers, reorganizing the database structure and re-writing data retrieval routines to make them more efficient.

I am well fed up with this site. Why couldn't they leave the tree as it was? Totally hate the new layout and thinking of Cancelling.
