You don't need a second email or name to create a second account. It just has to have a different password. However it makes sense to enter a different name in the account details if only so you know which account you are logged in to.

The simple answer to the question asked is

you can only have one tree per account

But you can take out a free membership for each additional tree that you want to put up.

I thnk you have to have a different name, and possibly a different email address for each tree ......... but, again, you can take out free email address via gmail, hotmail, etc.

also be aware that others have reported problems when attempting to upload a modified gedcom as suggested above .............. including loss of information

If you Export your GEDCOM file and then load it into a Suitable progrsmme on your PC (I use an old version of Family Tree Maker) you should be able to add an unrelated individual.
Then import the modified GEDCOM and Hey Presto, you have a person to build your tree on.
I have tried it and it does work
There are drawbacks however. You will need to use your tree search to get to the person and if you have any photos or other links, they MAY get reallocated somewhere else. I have found that when replacing the GEDCOM after working "Off Line" then it is still better to Delete first before Import.

I have seperate (free) accounts for adopted relatives, but it does make searching records a bit of a pain. That is one thing I like about ancestry - you can have any number of trees on one account.

Hi all

I don't know if anyone can help ... is it possible to create a second tree within the same account or would I have to register a new account?

The reason I ask is that I have stumbled across an adopted member of my family and have started to trace their birth parents / family. I would very much like to create a tree with this information in it.

Thanks in advance.

H :-)
