Re "we are aware that people use other sites. We don't mind if they are mentioned, but it does depend on the context. So, if someone said they'd found XX record on a.n.other website then that's fine. If they said a.n.other website is much better than Genes, then we'd remove that type of comment."

- I thought that it was permitted to mention other sites, otherwise, for instance, Phil would not have stated that he would merge best websites threads at some time.
Thank you for that clarification.

estelle.
as your on this post.
could you please explain to me why my post was taken off the boards?no T&C breached and no explanation even after two e mails from me.
we the posters need to be made aware why our posts have been RRd and then taken off.
if people know, then maybe they wont make the same mistake again.
although my opening post was just asking for help, after being up for approx two wks and with lots of positive posts,it was taken off the boards why.

Yes it has been noted, but what I would like to know is it a GR employee reporting the posts or are you still expecting members to do it for you?

Estelle,

Thank you for responding. Your explanation of what is and isn't permitted is noted.

I'll be there on the Sunday LadyKira. I look forward to meeting you!

That is good to know Estelle.

I am a member of FMP and worldwide Ancestry as I am passionate about genealogy.

Many people come on here as their first tentative steps into it and indeed often their first steps on a computer. When those first steps are successful it encourages passion to grow and that can only be good everyone.

I find for myself that FMP records are easy to navigate as I was a member before GR started updating their records. but that is my personal choice. I appreciate having the choice.

I will be visiting the stand at WDYTYA Live on the Sunday.
:-D :-D :-D :-D

In response to Jonesey's original question we are aware that people use other sites. We don't mind if they are mentioned, but it does depend on the context. So, if someone said they'd found XX record on a.n.other website then that's fine. If they said a.n.other website is much better than Genes, then we'd remove that type of comment.

Each post that has been RR'd is always treated individiually. We read the post and the whole thread if necessary before making a decision.

Please, Estelle, could you or someone else answer the initial question by Jonesey? Thank you.

Estelle It is good to know you are doing well with your family tree,

However it would be appreciated if you or another member of the team could answer the question.

I know that another member of the team has a tree on Ancestry and has from information found on other sites. It has not done GR any harm but has broadened the coverage of her tree.

If I were looking for a long lost family member on here and that long lost family member just joined else where we would not find each other.

Rambling Report 26 Jan 2012 12:13

lol Estelle, Touche! :-D

I'm glad that your tree is going so well, it is interesting when you find some details like those to put 'flesh on the bones' isn't it?

I am writing a bit about my grandfather ( for the writers group) never having met him he was just a name...but now is quite a character lol.

Estelle Report 26 Jan 2012 12:01

Hi Rambling Rose - yes it was! I also use Google to find out contextual information. I like Genes because I can add a copy of the records to each family which I can easily refer back to.

I have found out quite a lot of interesting information in our British Newspaper Archive records, including a birth announcement for a child I had been previously unaware of.

Kind regards,

Estelle

I note (on FB) that a member of the GR team has been doing well with their family tree research...I have an itchy finger to ask whether all that was done using just the records on GR :-D

Bearing in mind that these Boards can be Googled as well, their silence can't be doing them any good.

Why would anyone new want to join a site that seems to have so many problems? :-S

It is sad that a simple stetement could have avoided so much frustration. :-(

Patchem + Joy

Here is a copy of the post that I made on Facebook on 5/1/2012, it is still there:

GR, I believe that some clarification is required.

I have been following with interest the posts made here on Facebook and on the GR site regarding the recent spate of removal of posts and threads.

From what is being reported by various GR members there appears to be a certain amount of inconsistency in the responses being received from GR when members query why their post/thread has been removed.

One of the latest responses received by a member states that his post was removed because "It mentioned a company other than ours".

Whilst I accept that GR has every right to object to its members using its message boards for commercial purposes to advertise other websites, does this restriction mean that no mention (Either by name or web address) of any website other than those operated by Brightsolid Online Publishing Ltd is permitted?

Clarification would I'm sure be appreciated by all your members.
