Many sites have a button at the bottom of each post where you can quote or multi quote the post in your own post.

This avoids confusion on a busy thread at who is talking to, or referring to whom. And may stop the inevitable "was that post directed at me" scenario we often have.

It will also be helpful when people do look ups on threads . :-D

While I like the idea of being able to quote portions of a post easily, the usual consequence is that each successive post contains all the previous relevant posts. We could end up doing a lot of scrolling.

Normally you can edit the quote, I normally delete the parts that are not relevant before posting. Of course GR has a different system of posting so this may not be possible..

You can always just cut & paste what you want from the previous post.

and put quotation marks around the c&p'd piece

which is what I do every time now

you can even also separate the c&p from the rest of the postings by using -----, which is what I also do sometimes

for example .......................

I also delete non-relevant parts of the quote, and with some sites you can do that after posting but before requesting "quote"
