In a few hours it will be Anzac day here in New Zealand and our Poppy day was last Friday.. it is always held the preceding Friday before Anzac Day. Are we to see a Poppy going on the board here?

It would be appropriate and welcomed.

We're going to the dawn service, and we're wearing sprigs of rosemary

Don't hold your breath. GR just posted on FB that Anzac Day is celebrated Australia wide.

So either New Zealand is now part of Australia (heaven help us) or GR have stuffed up on their facts again.

Maybe we should post GR an atlas.

I just wonder do they know how many Kiwis and those from that large mass of country across the ditch from us there are on GR.

There is always talk of us joining Australia, not just in making pavlovas.

I won. GR changed the wording of their original post on FB to now include New Zealand.

May be GR should do their research before posting on FB

The acronym ANZAC stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps

Well Done Gai.... GR obviously didn't (dont?) know what A.N.Z.A.C. means.

Poppy day in Australia is 11 November - used to be known Armistice Day, now Rememberance Day.

This morning many people were wearing rosemary for remembrance.

I've made a suggestion elsewhere that GR get an atlas...... I must check to see if their default still has Sydney in Western Australia

Here in England we should def. give ANZAC day far more recognition, why not a march down Whitehall? GRU flying a poppy would be a small start. Just be pleased if they can tell Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch NZ from their UK twins. They seem unsure of the location of Sydney...

A lot of my rellies fought with ANZAC, both NZ and OZ. Most got home, some stayed in France and Turkey, some stayed in the UK, settled down and got married - reverse emigration.

During ww1 one got wounded in the middle east and ended up in hospital in the New Forest (England). He decided not to go home and stayed in London. There he had the bad luck to be killed by a German buzz bomb (V1). He has a plaque but no poppy. His brother, who lived in a block of flats in St Johns Wood (London) was also killed when another V weapon hit the building.

Two many lost their lives in the war to end all wars and some of the stories you hear are just heart wrenching.

Let's hope we never see another war like WW1 or WW2 for that matter.
