Hi Gala,

You say you have some details from RG11 - that is the 1881 census. Could you post the details on here?

The easy answer is to take all the information from certificates, starting with your own and work backwards one generation at a time, unfortunately it isn't as easy as that in practice.

I have read through the thread a couple of times, am i right in saying that Sarah is the daughter of Maria?

Can you post the details for her birth (date, names of parents etc) that you have?

I have to nip and fetch my other half back for lunch but will be back in around an hour.

Glen,
I agree with you and I am totally at lost .
I am actually new on this site and have problem following the details of everything.
I'm not well educated .
Have you any idea how I could find Maria's birth date and birth place ?
I will be most grateful of your help .
I hope you can follow this .

Not wanting to be picky here but the info on a census return doesn't prove where and when anyone was born. All it does is show what the enumerator recorded (and that may be different to what was actually said).

Seeing as there doesn't appear to be an entry for for Maria with the right maiden name born in Shropshire in the 1871 i would be looking further afield for the birthplace and consider other entries too.

I just think you are on shaky ground assuming the 1901 details as being correct and might be risking some wasted effort and expense at a later date.

Hi Glen,
Sorry , it is not the same family .
Maria married a Henry Ramsbottom and had 3 boys and 1 girl .
I have a strong feeling that Maria may have come from German parents.

Hi Selena ,
you have been a great help . Thank you so much .
why" Leak " ?

Selena in South East London

Selena in South East London Report 16 Feb 2008 22:19

I strongly recommend that you get the marriage certificate of Henry Ramsbottom to Maria Leak. It will cost seven pounds online from the GRO, much cheaper then asking Shropshire Records office to do a search. It will also confirm Henry on 1881 with father James is the correct one.

I think that most census's begin with RG11 reference number.

I would be interested in the outcome if you can add it to the thread.

Good luck, I hope its the right family,

Selena
