hi all
have just got info of a will [from ancestry]
and he left his money to his [wife]
but i cant find a marriage

william henry goode left his money to gertrude goode
the question being would they have had to get married for her to take his name

No, I have someone in my tree who changed her surname to that of her partner. They later married and both had the same surname on the marriage certificate.

here is the other one that i cant find

joseph edward leatherland born 1887 nottingham
his mother was sarah ann goode who died in nottingham in 1925
in the paper i have found
in memory of mother [same date as sarah died ]and it say from joe and jill]

also in the paper
goode joseph edward on july 15 1937
joseph edward [ted]
of st anns well road
sorrowing family
brother will and gertie

now i cant find a marriage of a joseph and jill
would he have married in the name leatherland or goode
some advice please
