Thanks everyone. I am still new to this Family Tree set-up and apologise for repeating my searches. Forgive an old lady who really is grabbing at straws. The problem is that my grandfather's name changed due to language difficulties when he arrived in Africa. Now I will try the Kingdom of Serbia. But so many in this part of my family have different countries that they believe he came from i.e.Austria or Poland. So unless we hunt up the original family bible from 1880's, this going to be a struggle.

Best to keep to one thread, Jeanette. Saves people duplicating the research.

Could you tell us where you have looked for information and what you have found out about his parents, if anything?
You could possibly change your heading to include Eastern Europe or Southern Rhodesia or both, to attract people with more specialised knowledge.
Thank-you

My great grandfather Antonie born 1860, left either Poland, Yugoslavia or Austria in either late 1870's or early 1880's for South Africa. He married and had 5 children. He eventually settled in Southern Rhodesia now known as Zimbabwe.
Would love to find out more about him.
