Did your Slevin come to Scotland before or after 1901? If after, he would probably be on the 1901 Irish Census. There is only one Slevin listed in Enniskillen, a 46 year old single woman, first name could be Therasa. There are 23 Slavins listed. There is only one who could be Joseph's family and the father of the family I Patrick (same as Joseph's first child).

You can see the census here:

Sorry my mistake 1896 was the correct date for the marriage. Just checked the BC to make sure.

Hi Guys & thanks.

That seems to be the correct family in 1901 census. Got marriage date from birth of child. Happened to come over Joseph while looking for own Slevin/Slaven, and was curious if there was a connection as both Joseph and my Slaven both seemed to come from same part of Co.Fermanagh and moved over to Scotland at roughly the same time. Also resided in same area with both working in brewery. Occupation given in BC was brewery labourer.
The names of the children in census similar to my Slaven.
Knew Joseph was not a brother but possible cousin, but still none the wiser.
Thanks ALL for your help.

ArgyllGran, if that is the correct family in the 1901, given the ages of the children, 1896 would be a better date for the marriage - that Joseph would only have been 10 in 1889.

I checked just in case, but they didn't marry in Scotland, per ScotlandsPeople.

Just wondering where you got the marriage date from as nothing is coming up in Ireland Marriage Registrations for 1889

Possible death - if he died in Lanarkshire???

1904 SLAVEN JOSEPH M 39 MILTON GLASGOW CITY/LANARK 644/08 0813

But this one wouldn't be the same as the one in 1901 - too much age difference.

Maybe the one in 1881 census above.

Was he Scottish or Irish?

There are several families of Slavens in Lanarkshire in 1881, all of Irish extraction.

If he died in Lanarkshire, his d.cert would show his parents, assuming the informant knew that info. You would have to purchase the d.cert thru SP.
