I have 2 photos taken in Towcester, England, one I know is a Hannah Chapman nee Summers. She died in 1912 at the age of 85 yrs. in Silverstone, in the photo she is an old woman so I think the photo was take 1or or two years before her death.
The second photo is stamped Towcester Studio, could be taken around same time and could be some Chapman family, I am desperately trying to find how to have them dated and if I can find some one to identify the 2 gentlemen and lady in the second photo. I would be grateful for any suggestions.
Cheers Lorri :-D

Are they studio shots or just snapshots? any photographer mentioned on them?

Google the name of the Studio.

I hope you've checked 'search trees' for possible connections...................the only realistic chance you have is for someone else to have a copy of the same photo with the people identified

If you 'google' "dating an old photo" there are a number of results.

Assuming the photos are studio shots, research the photographers name - you might have to contact the nearest local library which has a FH section, make contact with a FHS or even the nearest full archives. At least one of them ought to have Trade Directories. Have a look on the internet for them.

As photos were often given to family members, now inherited by marry-ins, it could be very difficult to name the people featured. Your best bet would be to send a copy to all contacts you have on that side, and hope that they recognise it.

Have you put your tree on GR? It's the best way to try to link up with others researching the names

I can't see your name against any record for Hannah Summers born c1827.

Reggie, Lorri's tree is on GR, with Hannah Summers born in 1828.

There are several other trees with the same details, but they may already be contacts.

Penny the photos were taken in a studio. No photographer mentioned, however one of the photos had TOWCESTER STUDIO on the front.
Cheers Lorri :-)
