Not yet, I just saw your 'Find me something to do' message :) It does seem weird that if you do a search on Ancestry for 'Elizabeth Steyich' or 'Steyich' for that matter all that comes up is her marriage. Matthew Ps I love speculation :)

Thanks Very much Jess. That is definatly them. Eliza's death was only a possibility as well. I can save money on ordering that cert now thanks. There daughter Eliza Jane married a Taylor . Thanks again Julie Just realized the wife you found was Mary not Eliza (I must start reading things properly first time lol). So maybe her death is correct after all. Either he had remarried to Mary or Eliza had a middle name Mary and decided to use that. Off to look at marriages now :-)

Tricia Report 23 Oct 2005 16:03

Hi Jess Thankyou for your reply. I am fairly sure that the 1861 and 1891 census are the same family. They married in Cheltenham and he was working for GWR Their first child, John Joseph was born in Cheltenham 1854 In the 1861 census John Joseph was shown as Joseph and he was living with his maternal grandmother in Painswick Gloucestershire. In the 1861 census, George Carter was working as an engineman on the Cheltenham and Gloucester railway. The Elizabeth Carter shown in Waltham Cross is a possible as John Joseph married a girl from Hertfordshire and was in Hertfordshire in the 1881 census. George and Eliza were also in Hertfordshire by the 1891 census. hope that makes sense. regards Tricia

Hi Jess Thank you for your kind offer. I have been trying to find the following couple for ages. I have them in 1861. 1891 and 1901 but I cannot find them in 1871 and 1881. they are: George Carter...born 1833 Cheltenham Gloucestershire and Eliza Carter...born 1831 Painswick Gloucestershire. I am sure they were not beamed up by aliens but can't imagine where they could have been hiding during these two census. many thanks Tricia
