Hi Mike Must have been following you around, I found Elizabeth at The Newarke Houses but wasn't sure plus I keep getting confused with Elizabeth/Ann, put Ann in my query to you above and then thought that's wrong and changed to Elizabeth DOH! Plus I remember seeing Jonas in a list on his own (not a census record) but can I find it....... Not had enough time to sit and work it all out this week but can't wait till I can Elaine

Mike. The Leicester Lad.(GC) Report 14 Sep 2005 01:33

Greeting’s Again Elaine….. I read the details from those Baptisms as follows :- 25.12.1819. Ann. Father :- Jonas Ward. Mother Ann Ward ( née Lee ) Occupation of Father :- Fish Monger. Address = Newark. When you have seen an early Parish Record Then it will make sense as that’s how it’s set out Yes…. I would say you are lucky to have Jonas’s wife’s Maiden name It’s all to do with who takes the details down Some Curates / Vicars were particular for FULL details…. Thinking aloud now… I’ve done a bit of fretting about ……. At first I thought Jonas had TWO marriages But this was dispelled by Ann's Death (1841.) and Jonas's burial 1837...... SO....... Could the Elizabeth Ward on the 1841. Census ( Sunday 6th. June 1841..) Have been a Leicester relative of Jonas & Ann.? And she was looking after the Fish Monger’s ? Due to Ann Ward’s death See below :- St. George’s Parish Church ( Situated on Rutland Street) WARD ANN 21 FEB 1841 AGED.48 Or..... was Elizabeth...... Ann’s middle name which she preferred ?........ Also just had a look at a Kelly’s Trade directory for Leicester 1843. Under Fish Mongers....And NO Wards featured…..Grrr Had another look at the 1851. census again found the following:- 1851. Census. 2090. /298. / 23. / 87. Leicester. St. Martin’s Parish. Town Hall Lane.( Today = Guild Hall Lane) MARY BREWIN HEAD W 40 F INN KEEPER LEI LEICESTER FOREST EMILY VARNHAM NECE M 24 F INN KEEPER LEI LEICESTER THOMAS WILSON LODG W 32 M CARPENTER LEI LEICESTER ADAM WILSON LODG 9 M LEI LEICESTER WRIGHT WILSON LODG 7 M LEI LEICESTER EDWARD IVENS LODG U 20 M CARPENTER NTH WOLD JOHN GERM LODG M 35 M CURRIER DBY DERBY HENRY WARD LODG U 30 M CARPENTER LEI BARKBY * CHARLES H WARD LODG U 26 M FISHMONGER NTT NEWARK JOHN WILLEY LODG W 50 M MILLER HRT WHE(R/S)TON? (WESTON?) Shame it didn't say where Charles worked ....Grr Also.... Could this be Elizabeth Ward from the 1841 Census ? 1851. Census. 2090. / 13. / 32. Leicester. St. Martin’s Town Hall Lane. “ Newark Houses.” ANNE J BOULTON HEAD M 39 F DRESSMAKER LAN MANCHESTER JOHN G BOULTON SON U 17 M CARPENTERS APP LEI LEICESTER ROSA BOULTON DAU U 10 F SCHOLAR LEI LEICESTER * ELIZABETH WARD LODG M 55 F PAUPER GLOVE STITCHER LEI LEICESTER To save face told them she was still married ? Time to blow out that candle me thinks …..<3 MIKE.

Hi Mike So it is Elizabeth Lee who Jonas married, am I just lucky that Lee has been mentioned or should it have been down on all the births, the Ann Lee written twice for Ann is confusing me Elaine

Thanks very much Mike, that's great. I had found the entry for SB in 1851 - with his daughter Jane, son-in-law William Knight and their children. The lack of Palmers I would assume means that they moved into Lubenham at some point, which makes tracing them a little trickier. Thanks for your help and good luck with your own research. Best wishes, Michael

Hi Mike Got my Thomas in 1841 already with Hannah, it's 1851 I can't find them but thank you very much. I shall have to make my first trip to the records office and look for my Wards in Newarke first I think and then brave Leicester and take one chunk at a time. Your help is much appreciated Elaine
