Hi all, I am also related to Richard Rowe born Rattlesden in 1792. He was my 3x Great grandfather, he Married Mary Stiff in 1822 the next year he came out of the army.. I found out his army records after a bit of reseach and dead ends..It very interesting he spent 13 years and 210 days in the Queen's royals 2nd foot regiment. He joined in Ipswich in 1809 aged 17 but said he was 14, I think it was because he was short.. He went on to fight with the Duke of Wellington in the Peninsular war in Spain, at the battle of Vittoria in 1813 and the pyrenees in 1814. The regiment was then sent to the west indies for over 5 years and he spent the last year and a half in Dublin before being discharded for being undersized..He was only 5foot 3 and a half inches tall, grey eyes and brown hair. his conduct was very irregular as his officer said..Mist have fell asleep on guard duty a lot.. His daughter Harriet married my ancestor John Sparke and they ended up with 15 children together, one of which was my gt. grandad Arthur Sparke.. :-D

Jane, I really didn't do anything other than post the 1851 census.

As I said, you can confirm the mother's maiden name by purchasing one of the children's birth certificates. There's a possible marriage on Family Search to Mary Anne Stiff - may or may not be right. Also a possible birth of Richard.

A word of warning about other people's trees. Not everyone conducts their research as thoroughly as you might think, so do check everything out. I'm still confused about Catherine who is 10 in 1841, then you said she was born 1847, and then 1859 (when the mother would have been going on for 60 - most improbable).

I can't find any of this family in 1861.

Good luck

Margaret

thanks !!
My gt gt gt grandad was richard Roe b. 1793? He married Mary? b.1801?
they had 4? children George b.1840, Job b.1844, harriet b. 1847, Catherine b.1859.
this information has been gathered off other members trees but i have checked my gt gt frandfathers info and it is correct. Job married Frances Pead in 1865. And i know Job was born in rattlesden suffolk.
I am trying to find information on Richard and I think that the information Madmeg has sent could be a very strong possibility.
thanks again, i get very excited when i think i have found another of my ancestors!!
jane.

Hi Jane

We can all get a bit muddled at times. I'm in agreement with Dea - post the information you are certain about, cos I'm concerned you might be chasing the wrong family.

Jane, have you found them in 1841 or later censuses? Where did you find the daughter Christine?

The birth cert of any of the children registered after 1 July 1837 will give the mother's maiden name.

Hi Jane,

It is nice to have someone actually apologise for 'wasting our time', even though we haven't spent much time on it yet !!

Why don't you give us the 'facts' that you have and an idea of where you were trying to go and we can see what we can come up with?
