James born approx 1850 - in 1861 census living with family in winterbourne in wiltshire then no record of him until the 1901 census when he's the head of the family living in camberwell, aged 48-51. Can't find him 1871, 1881, 1891. |

Sometimes people use a different first name or are called by a different name: just in case - in 1881 there is a John Vick b Woolwich about 1852, private soldier, "Fourth (Q.D.) Hussars", Aldershot, Hampshire. |

for interest, Christina's birth registration ............... if the requester does not know who James Edward married, obtaining this certificate would provide the mother's maiden name |

I was thinking an army connection too. It would explain the childrens' various places of birth. Woolwich is very much an army town and they were dependent on horses. He also might not have been a soldier but grooms were needed for the horses. |
