looking for marriage of john robertson and susan paterson they had a son william born on the 15th dec 1830 in rutherglen scotland.
Have looked on scotlands people for a marraige but cannot find.
I am greatfull for any help.

It states that Susan was born in Lanarkshire around 1816 but the only one I can find around that time is SUSAN PATERSON 1814
EAST KILBRIDE LANARKSHIRE.
If this is your Susan, she would have been just 16 when William was born.
It is a possibility that they didn't marry until she was older but I'll have another look.

There is also a submitted record on familysearch for Crawford with parents John Robertson and Mary McBlaine.

Scotlandspeople has a death for Susan Robertson in 1849 in Cambuslang.

I have found john's marriage to mary but gives no info on him or his family.

It doesn't mean that John and Susan didn't marry just because they are not recorded in the OPRs on Scotlandspeople. The OPRs are mainly Church of Scotland records so if they attended a different church they may not have had their marriage recorded on the Church of Scotland records.

If John died after 1855, then you may get his parents names from his death certificate - if the informant knew. It could be a long search as there will be so many John Robertsons. Look for the death of his second wife first as you can use both Robertson and her maiden surname to search. Her death certificate will tell you if she is "married to" or "widow of" John Robertson. This will narrow the search years for John's death.

I noticed in the 1951 census they had a william robertson staying with them, could this be his father

Yes, he is his father. Here's William's details from that 1851 census. With a bit of luck he will have lived until 1855 and you can get his death on SP!!

Found mary's death cert and gives husband as john robertson coalminer.
She died 8th july 1894 signed by her son crawford.
So he must still have been alive.
I have looked on scotlands people but as you said rootgatherer there is a lot of john robertson's
