http://www.hmcourts-service.gov.uk/infoabout/civil/probate/index.htm

If she had a will, which seems likely as she left property, at least you have her full name birthdate and last known address.

As she was your fathers mother, it is possible she may have left him something? It might also be possible he is her only heir? These things happen....

Theres a thought, but im sure she must have had more kids(just a feeling) and besides, My Dad would be the sort to give it to charity under the circumstances, knowing him! Doesn't seem right somehow iykwim?

We spoke last night and all we really hope now is to see a photograph of her, that would be amazing (and maybe trace a sibling.)

Thanks will have a look at the website now!

I can not find a find definite sibling of joans, so maybe if we go back one generation it could be possible to bring them forward.
You never know you could find an ancester who could have some info to fill in the blanks.

Heres a start.
1901 cencus
Daniel welbourne c1864 plungar leicestershire.
Dinah hanlon? c1863 tabberton ireland.
children
Joe white welbourne 1888 carlton notts.
Ellen welbourne c1890 carlton.
John william welbourne c1896 newstead notts.
Ethel welbourne c1899 newstead.

Daniel welbourn-dinah hanlon dec q1887 bingham vol 7b page 693.

Back in an hour richard.

That Joe was Joe While Welborn im pretty sure, thats where i went wrong..i have a copy of the census report, but when u look at his birth it says While not White....

is that what u found?

Hi lisa
Back from my couple of pints.
Regarding the birth for joe no when i looked for his birth it gives his name as Joe white welbourn.
I gave his birth details earlier along with his death.

Lisa

Lisa Report 8 May 2008 22:55

Just checked my printouts, on the 1901 Census information, Joe 'While' Welborn was listed at this address aged 12...do you think it could be an admin error???

Just looked at the original for the 1901 cencus, it does look like (While) but i would suspect it is (White).

P/S hope you enjoy your drink.

Lisa Report 8 May 2008 23:39

yeah its ambiguous on the actual scan of document but the typed up list of occupants states While..

i do hope its the right one...had an emotional trip over there...its called Great North Lodge (The Gate house to a Priory, not huge but very sweet, and theres a huge tree outside and i stared at it for ages thinking i bet Joe used to look at it as a child? maybe even climb it! I took a picture of house and tree if anyone is bored and wants a butchers! can email! ( Im obsessed with trees by the way too!) and taking pictures! And old inanimate objects that have witnessed years of history!

Should stop before i scare people..! ;-)

I know it means nothing but on ancestry the transcribed version states joe white welbourn.

Maybe someone else out there can take a look to see what they think.

(joe white welbourn 1889 carlton notts)

Lisa Report 9 May 2008 22:10

Hi all, just wondered if anyone also knew of any way any information can be looked up regarding profession in the Civil Service? G H Kausman was listed as one on his marriage certificate?

Thanks in advance!

Lisa

Lisa Report 12 May 2008 22:29

Hello im back! Sorry been on hols for few days but back now and hot on the trail again!

Written a few letters tonight to various Kausmans and hope they still live there and are poss related!

Thanks for all your help last wk, if anyone has any spare time, would very much appreciate a few hints!

Received 2 certificates this morning, details as follows!

Birth Certificate for

Sheila Margaret Kausman.(my Dads poss half sister!)
On Top of page: Reg 1940 Birth in sub D of Staines

then underneath:
Date of Birth 07 Aug 1938, 16 the Hall, London Rd, Stanwell, Staines

Name: Sheila Margaret

Mother: Joyce Margaret: "now the wife of Harry Gordon Kausman" (Commercial Traveller!)

then a note hand written at the side of the paper
" Prev registered on 8th Sept 1938 at entry 329 in staines sub district "Adopted" (cant be related then!)

Does any one know if this means she was adopted by both Joyce and Harry? or is it possible she belonged to Joyce and the Harry adopted her as his own 1 yr after they married in 1939.

Am unsure how to check this if anyone has any ideas, would really appreciate it.

The Marriage cert did not throw any new light really except Harry was married to Joyce Margaret Martin 26 Jan 1939, She was 20, and that he was Previously married to Phyllis White. Have tried finding and children but cant? any ideas there?

Big hello and thanks to everyone who helped last week! Hope you all had a good weekend!
