Hi Rosemary,

Still no look then ? right just to reiterate. your looking for Mary Theresa Johnson, born 1945, last seen at her Fathers flat in 1960, bit believed to have been working in Birmingham when she was 18.

Rigth this means she was not sent by the childrens home, or adopted as she would have been too old,

No luck with the address I sent you ? there are 3 marriages for that name in Warwickshire from 1960-1999. have you obtained these marriage certsand ruled these out ?
Did the NHS say if her NI number is currently being used ? This way we can see if she is in England.

Hi Sheila, The marriages I've had certificates for are:- Moran 1972, Farner 1961, Field 1961, Walker 1961, Andrews 1969 which is the one I can't make my mind up about! I will PM you about that one.
National Health said the Mary they found hadn't used the NHS, but it may not have been the right person as at that time we hadn't her DOB.
I did write to the address you gave me with a sae but no reply. Then Fairhorn sent me a message to say there was now another Johnson living at that address, so I wrote to her, no reply.
The fact that BCC said she was working in Birmingham when she was 18 knocks out the theory Mary was a child migrant.
The NHS now won't give details to the general public, my husband has to do it through a Social worker and there is a 6 month waiting list.
Janey kindly looked at the deaths up to 2005, but Mary isn't there.
I really don't know where to go now.
Thanks for your message

Hi all you people out there, I thought I ought to mention that I looked at all the Mary Theresa Johnsons' on Facebook, I think there were 8. I contacted one of them in Canada but it wasn't her. Just thought I'd let you know that.

Think you can rule out the Andrews marriage as it looks like this Mary was married before.

What I thought, Sheila, was that she married under the husband's surname as well because she was "also known as" that -- see the child's birth reg also -- I think Rosemary has the certificates ...

Nonetheless I do doubt that she is Rosemary's person.

Thankyou Sheila & Janey, sorry not got on before but had my elderly mother. I really can't make up my mind one way or the other about the Andrews marriage, but sway towards it not being the one. Thankyou for your help

Hi everyone, have found out that when Mary was working in Birmingham in 1963 she was living either at Ingolsby Road or St Marks Street with her Father & Stepmother. Does anyone remember the Johnson's at that time at either of those addresses I wonder? & if so do they know where Mary Theresa went from there? A nickname for her was Tess
Any info will be appreciated
Thanks Rosemary

Have just emailed the archives at Birmingham Central Library to ask them to please look at the Electoral Role for 1966, with a view to ascertaining if Mary Theresa was still living with her Father & Stepmother in 1966 when she came of age. Apparently there is a 20 day wait!
Wondered if any kind person out there had access to the electoral role in Birmingham for 1966 please?
If not I shall have to be patient!!
With thanks Rosemary

Found out today Mary's middle name is spelt differently, so have altered it on the heading.
No other news

Thanks Rosemary

Had a thought today. I wonder if Mary joined the Armed Forces in 1963 when she was 18?! Either the Army, RAF or Navy? She may have thought it was a good career move as she was unhappy. It would explain why she hasn't used the NHS, and why we can't find a marriage for her in this country. If she was posted abroad she could have married abroad.
Can anyone help on this train of thought please? eg Records of recruits in the 1960s, or where I could write to please.

With thanks Rosemary

Hi, Is anyone able to look up a Military marriage abroad for me please re Mary Teresa Johnson?

It would be from 1963 and I have no idea when. It is just a chance she may have joined the Armed Forces and married abroad.

With thanks in anticipation Rosemary

Rosemary, the name actually isn't visible in the heading now -- you mentioned her middle name being spelled differently? What it says now is

Military Marriage Lookup abroad please for Mary Te

As long as it's spelled correctly in your opening post, that's what counts though. (And probably only the initial would be on records.)

Sorry I could only suggest the possibility of a military marriage, myself - no FMP subscription. ;)

On second thought, I should have mentioned -- I think that such lookups are very time-consuming because they're not transcribed. It means viewing pages where a possible marriage might appear, quarter by quarter? as used to be the case for the GRO before Ancestry got it transcribed. It might be a bit much for someone to do on spec. ;) Does FMP offer trial subs the way Ancestry does? If so, you could give that a go.

Thanks Janey, will alter the heading.

Have you tried a street search on friends reunited - there may be a neighbour listed who lived there at the same time and be able to give you some details

Hi

I've checked all the marriages available on FMP for Army and overseas from 1961 to 2005. Sorry but not 1 Mary Johnson marriage amongst them.

Hi, sorry I had to sign off last night my hubbie wasn't feeling well.

Have done the street search on FR Liz47. But thanks for suggesting it.
And thankyou very much Contrary Mary for the lookup on marriages, very kind of you. So that theory out of the window. Maybe Mary didn't marry at all!! I don't think she can of done.
I was asked last night on FR if I knew Mary Knowles. So found her & she was nee Johnson but didn't recognise the schools she went to. But sent her a message anyway, and am waiting to hear back from her.
Thankyou both very much

Hi,

No news yet ? Does anyone know anything about emigration records ? do they have any after the early 1960s ?

Janey do you know if you can check anywhere for Canada or America ? just wondering if she was single then and thought she had no family then, she may have emigrated.

Hi Sheila - I guess I explained that Canada stuff to Rosemary privately. ;)

No BMD ("vital events") registration data is accessible by the pubic in Canada for many years after the event -- the registrations are provincial, but most provinces are about the same: 100 years for births, 85 years for marriages, 75 years for deaths is standard. BC has a more recent cutoff for deaths, for example.

The US I'm not familiar with, but events are registered on a state basis. Ancestry does have social security death info I believe. That can be searched by name at ancestry.com -- I don't have access myself.

Australia and New Zealand would be other possibilities. I'm not familiar with New Zealand and only with the odd Australian state, e.g. NSW has marriages on line up to 1959 and deaths up to 1979, but births only to 1909.

Outgoing passenger lists at FMP are accessible only up to 1960.

So unfortunately I don't think there are any searches in these various places that would be likely to find her, if she were there, since she was known to be in England in 1963.
