Pamela's birth was registered under both surnames, a year apart. That is *always* an indication that the parents were not married.

I'm not entirely comfortable with that personal information being here and would prefer to delete it once you've said you've seen it, Thomas. Maybe you could say what your relationship with them is?

Oops. Guess who didn't notice there was a page 2 until this posted.

~~~ all. I'd still like to know what the relationship was, and am not comfortable with that info being published here!
Inferred County: London
1911, this one was born in Oxford:
HAWTIN WILLIAM GEORGE 1906 5 Shardlow Derbyshire
HAWTIN GEORGE EDWARD 1873 38 Shardlow Derbyshire
HAWTIN EMMA 1874 37 Shardlow Derbyshire
HAWTIN VICTORIA MAUD 1900 11 Shardlow Derbyshire
HAWTIN FLORENCE MAY 1905 6 Shardlow Derbyshire
HAWTIN GLAYDAS LILIAN 1908 3 Shardlow Derbyshire
HAWTIN ALBERT PERCIVAL 1910 8 MONTHS Shardlow Derbyshire
Probably not useful - the thing sometimes is that living relations - say children of William's siblings - might have family knowledge. For instance, whether William was ever in India/Burma.
Still not knowing Thomas's relationship with them all, don't know which thing might be already known!
JaneyCanuck Report 27 Aug 2009 04:44
Aha. It was a military family; suspected.
1901
Name: Emma Hawtin
Age: 27
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1874
Relation: Wife - "wife of soldier on active service in S. Africa"
Gender: Female
Where born: Chichester, Sussex, England
Civil parish: Chichester
Emma Hawtin 27
Victoria M Hawtin 1
It's just maybe more likely the India/Burma report is true, with that background.
George Hawtin is not listed in the Imperial Yeomanry so may have been career military:
No, that's okay, Thomas -- as long as the person in question knows she's being talked about and it's okay with her! ;)
It's just that sometimes, someone is looking for, say, a cousin, and we start talking about how her parents weren't married and her father ran off with the neighbour and her mother set up house with the milkman ... and one would just hate for one of the people in question to go googling her family names and find all the family secrets laid out on a discussion board and being picked over by strangers!
I'm not quite clear -- are you looking for Patricia? Or just for info on Pamela's and Patricia's mother?
Definitely, if you can identify Dorothy's birth, the thing to do would be to get the birth certificate. Finding the birth is the problem. You might want to try that Sheffield one. If she was adopted, you have a possibly insurmountable hurdle identifying her birth.
There are three other people here at GR with William Hawtin 1906 Oxfordshire in their trees.
Are you in contact with them?
One of them is a Hawtin. Unless he's a very distant relation who just has a huge Hawtin tree, he sounds like he might be somebody to talk to.
Interesting! York district was where two of William Hawtin's sisters married, Gladys in 1931 and Victoria in 1921.
Since the parties are undoubtedly deceased:
Name: Gladys L Hawtin
Spouse: Arthur Partridge
Date of Registration: Apr-May-Jun 1931
Registration district: York
Registration county (inferred): Yorkshire - East Riding
Volume Number: 9d
Page Number: 79
4 children born in Yorkshire 1931-1948
Name: Victoria M Hawtin
Spouse: Alfred J Grover
Date of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec 1921
Registration district: York
Registration county (inferred): Yorkshire - East Riding
Volume Number: 9d
Page Number: 23
One child born in Derbyshire, not sure about other possibles.
Details of those children could be sent privately if you want them, Thomas.
Janey,
I did look yesterday but Ancestry isn't consistent with the name abbreviations. I searched for William and their were no results.
Wm/William are synonymous on the census searches.
Heh, I was alluding to me being called the clever girl in a thread yesterday. ;)
I'd noticed that Ancestry has started connecting the Wm-s and William-s in census search results. Didn't used to be that way. You'd think they'd make it universal, for pity's sake.
I've been looking for them outbound at FMP. William being military, probably not in records, but you'd think the others. No real luck under either surname, though.
