There can be 2 or more couples per page of a registration index. In the case of Rees Thomas there is only one other couple.

Pengelly Charles Swansea 11a 843
Cobham Mary Ann Swansea 11a 843

Thomas Rees Swansea 11a 843
Davies Sarah Swansea 11a 843

Because you've seen the census transcription you assume he married the only Sarah. From this information you can order the marriage cert if you wanted. Only order through GRO [General Records Office] otherwise you could be charged more than their rate of £7.

However I've gone one step further & checked out Charles Pengelly, a fairly unusual name. You're in luck because he's with his in-laws.
1871 Wales Census
Name: Charles Pengelly
Age: 25
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1846
Relation: Son in Law
Spouse's Name: Mary Ann
Gender: Male
Where born: Devon, England
Civil parish: Swansea
Ecclesiastical parish: Holy Trinity and Swansea
Town: Swansea
County/Island: Glamorgan
Country: Wales
Registration district: Swansea
Sub-registration district: Swansea
ED, institution, or vessel: 20
Household schedule number: 148
Household Members:
Name Age
William Copham 45
Ann Copham 44
Mary Ann Pengelly 25
Charles Pengelly 25

Making it pretty certain that Charles Pengelly married Mary Ann Copham/Cobham therefore Rees Thomas married Sarah Davies.

Hi Ozi

Thanks for the heads up. With regards to your last paragraph regarding Sarah. Not sure how to read it. Are you saying that, the only marriage with regards to a Sarah in that period was.......... if so, what does the

Cobham Mary Ann Swansea 11a 843
Davies Sarah Swansea 11a 843
Pengelly Charles Swansea 11a 843
Thomas Rees Swansea 11a 843

the above mean??

Sorry for being a bit slow but I don't know how to read that.

Thanks

Considering Jemima was 52 in 1851 I would think that John was her last known child. See my 2nd posting on this thread.

I can't find Jemima or Thomas after 1851. There are 3 Jemima Thomas deaths between 1851 & 1861 registered in Swansea, & 38 Thomas Thomas.

Rees Thomas remains in Forest fach, and in 1888 has 9 children.

It's a bit difficult to follow the others as there are quite a lot of Thomas with the same first names born about the same time.

Hello, Just looking at William Thomas Death Cert, it states in 1870 when he died he was 43years, which makes his birth date around 1827, and says his parents names are Thomas Thomas and Jemima Thomas. It didn't say her maiden name. So everything matches up. Did they have census after 1864 in Wales? Just wondering if THomas and Jemima had any other children, after John THomas (census 1841) was 1 year old.

Thanks again

Hello and Brillian work. SOrry I wasn't on earlier my husband did his back in so I've been trying to see doctors etc.

Just found out that when William Thomas, his wife Ann and daughter came to australia as I said previous that Sarah Griffiths and Thomas Thomas was with them. Thomas Thomas was incorrect and was suppose to be Thomas Griffiths, Sarah's husband, hence thinking he was a brother.

So William's mother's name was Jemima Harris, Brilliant work and thanks soooo much for your help, you are all very clever hence me emailing you all the time. :c)

Kindest regards

The village of Llangyfelach is located in the City and County of Swansea, Wales. Llangyfelach is situated about 4 miles north of Swansea city centre.

Also this is on GenUKI - Fforest Fach in the Parish of Llangyfelach (as in 1851). Two collieries there at one time - Mynydd Newydd Colliery & Worcester Colliery.

Bron, you won't get a cert because they didn't start in England & Wales until September 1837. You need a baptism record.

Hello

I've tried to locate a birth cert for William Thomas, but to no avail. He was born in Swansea, Wales in 1827-8. Parents were Thomas Thomas and Jemima. Haven't checked any census as I don't have access. He left Wales in 1864 for Australia. He has a brother named Thomas who is 10 years younger than him.

Would really appreciate any help locating a birthdate, siblings names and/or mother's maiden name.

Thanks kindly
