hi Derek
Hope you are feeling better. Have you had any more luck re George Turner of Cromford for me ? if not then is it what is mentioned on my thread re him.
Thanks Sharon

Derek

Good morning Sharon.......I'm afraid that you seem to have as much as you're going to get..it's the name change to Taylor tht throws me and i don't peronally think it's a justified leap of faith without some back up.......I am still trying, without success to find Sarah turner.........I think its time to start looking for certificates.

Happy New Year.

Derek.

Hi Derek, hope you are feeling well.I cannot wait to see anything else you can give me on the Shipleys. The illegitimate son of Gladys was in fact my father and we have no idea how to find out who his father was. I am also really intrigued to know what the scandal was. Happy New Year, regards Sandie. :-)

Yes Derek the name taylor throws me too. In the 1871 Cenus his name is Listed as Geo Turner the Marriage Certificate i heve to his wife Hannah Wilson does show his father as George turner an Iron Moulder. The later Cenus list George turner born in Cromford abt 1842 they lived in Rotherham.
I would go for a birth certificate once i know a deffinate one to go for. :-)
Have sent you a message re marriage
Sharon :-)

Hi Derek,

I've recently found the report of the death of a Mary Holmes wife of Abel Holmes in Dec.1860 in the newspapers on FMP. You've tried to help me before to find when she died but without success as there was so many of them with that name. It looks very much as if this is the right one going by her age and living in Chesterfield. What I wondered was, is there any more info you can find for me? The report says she was living in Stoke's yard, Chesterfield when she died.

Many thanks and a Happy New year to you
Kath

Hi Derek
Did me sending you that marriage certificate help you in anyway?
Sharon

Derek Report 1 Jan 2013 18:46

Well..it did and it didn't....shows George Turner as father..and am looking further.............tell you what...try another scenario.......SARAH married George Taylor..but that marriage is nothng to do with George Turner...the george Taylor born Cromford 07.03.1819..who you might think was the candidate to marry Sarah.....was still unmarried on the 1881 Census!!

Sarah Turner marred George Taylor Belper District Dec 1842..but not at Cromford.....I'm beginning to think that he is a complete red herring.....

I have found George Turner 1843 son of George and Sarah Turner at Lea on the 1851..and Lea Road runs into Cromford a couple of miles away..says born Lea..but that is more than possible.......different Censuses often show different birth places........my new scenario is that George was probably born before 1843..when he was baptised.....then his parents got married..and he remained george Turner throughout.....in spite of the odd mistranscription.....and it seems to hang together..............unless you know better!!

Happy New Year

Derek

Hi Derek
I too think that he stayed as George Turner through out his life i just want to get him with the right year of birth & parents as we have only got the child Arthur wilson turner birth certificate which shows his parents as George Turner & Hannah Wilson
as info to go on he was born in sheffield/ (He was not an easy one to find till i got his birth certiicate.)
These Turners are not as easy as you might think to find are they
As you say George Taylor could be a red herring
:-)
Thanks for all your help with this :-) :-)

Hello Kathleen.....Happy New year to you.............yes I've seen the 1860 Death...civil registration Chesterfield District............but this means any of several local parishes, not necessarily Chesterfield itself............"Chesterfield" would mean Chesterfield St Mary's.for which I don't have the records..or New Brampton..for which I do...I'll look at the list of parishes that were included in the Chesterfeld registration District..and go through the records that I do have.........otherwise 'll have to go to Matlock to lokk at the one's I don't have......may not be for a while becasue i had a ghastly Christmas healthwise, and am still recovering...............but the fact that you have Mary Holmes wife of Abel Holmes Chesterfield 1860..??????? definitely ??????.........I'll find her.

Derek.
