Hi Lisa

Closest I can find is Thomas POWER in 1865 aboard 'Himalaya' to NSW aged 24, but he is not travelling with a wife (at least she is not named, thought that can happen!

This could be a transcription error, POVER being rather unusual. What makes you think he came to NSW? Do you have his death or chn?

Hi Cherilyn,
Thank you very much for looking for me,
I have exhausted all other options I believe, he got married, had a handful of children and then disappears, the paper trail goes cold, his wife dies in England, the youngest two children end up in the workhouse. When my family were talking about this particular branch, a cousin said 'wasn't he the one that bug_red off to Australia?, at the time (years ago) I brushed it off...but there is an entry on ancestry for a Thomas Pover to NSW, only worldwide membership is needed to view it.
I'll find him eventually, thank you again for your time looking,
Kindest regards
Lisa

Hi Sheila

There is this one at North Rockhampton Cemetery, aged 75 - may be his dad?:
ELPHINSTONE Allan M 75 Wednesday, 26 August 1987 Tuesday, 1 September 1987

Assume you know about this:

and this (lovely photo of Ralph and tribute to him)

It may be worth contacting the council in Rockhampton; it was a very well known event and so they may have some knowledge of his grave's whereabouts.

Thanks for that yes we have seen the second one. Not sure about the Allan connection we think he was born in South Africa but lived in England before he went to Australia. Thanks again

HI Dawn

Can't find anything that early in Qld for that surname, sorry.

There is a death for Brian Richard Chas SMITHERMAN n Brisbane in 1965 (reg B70837).

There is also a marriage for Dorothy SMITHERMAN in 1921 to Frederick Reginald CHAMPION (reg B28242). Possible death for her in 1975 (parents not named). Frederick died in 1953, son of Frederick & Florence Mary (nee CUREL).
