Madmeg Report 12 Mar 2010 17:00

You keep amending your info - makes it difficult.

I can't see Matilda Humpreys or Humphries in 1871 living on a farm, and not with a grandson.

If you have the census, why not post it here?

BatMansDaughter

BatMansDaughter Report 12 Mar 2010 17:45

Sorry Spike,

Got called away, yes, Eliza's mother was a bit difficult to get past... got there in the end though.

I'm having trouble finding any other census with the family, have you got them in 1891?

Madmeg Report 12 Mar 2010 19:18

I was just "slightly" put off by the original posting telling us that he lived with his grandparents James and Matilda Humphreys on a farm and the original question was "have I got something wrong".

Answer yes, the Humphreys are nothing to do with him and they don't live on a farm.

However, I'll let Spike off (just this once) cos his grandma in 1871, a 73-year old widow, is an employer of 2 blacksmiths. Quite an achievement, I would say!

I can't seem to spot William and Ellen in 1881,though.

Spike

Spike Report 13 Mar 2010 19:02

HI Maureen looks like the right people as their son went on to marry my G Grandmother in 1904. They had five children Stanley Hilda my Grandmother Vera, Lily or Lillian and Ronald the last two I don't even know if they are alive Lily was about 5 years ago Ron was a bit of drinker!!
Hilda then went on to Marry Francis Swarman in 1935. My Great Grandad Manser was still alive when I turned 2 in1967 the pair of us would smoke herbal fags and drink gin while playing an upright piano the noise was terrible he was always getting into trouble for being a bad role model!!!!!!!!

Spike

Spike Report 13 Mar 2010 19:09

I am barking up the right tree. Im very good at reading old stylie writing it States quite clearly that William George Mancer is Their GRANDSON, and that he is 15 and is an Apprentice Blacksmith. Mands Farm is stated that was were he was living in 1871

MaureeninNY

MaureeninNY Report 13 Mar 2010 20:17

Ah gee! Spike-you can't have two people of the same name as "yours". Pick one.

Maureen

Madmeg

Madmeg Report 13 Mar 2010 21:50

I can see no Mands Farm. Where does it say that Spike?

The apprentice blacksmith who is a grandchild in 1871 is the grandchild of Elizabeth Maryon, living possibly at Woodlands Farm.

My imagination is running wild with the thought of a 2-year old smoking herbal fags, drinking gin and playing the piano.

I am so glad that you are good at reading old style writing, but I can't see anything to read.

There is no mention of the surname Mancer on anyone's postings.

I am totally at a loss as to how to help.

Perhaps you could start again by telling us what you know.
