My thoughts exactly - I've looked! Feel that may be a vital missing link. Does anyone know if parts of Oldham may be missing from the 1901 census?

lancashireAnn Report 14 Apr 2010 21:53

can't find anything on the Oldham site to say any 1901 parts missing

maybe a trawl thru the marriage index for Our Lady (with any luck there is an index) to see if any marriage is there - or even the marriage of Mary to Peter Leicester MAY have something added in the margin as to another marriage - we have to have SOME luck somewhere

after a long conversation with gene ,a few things have come to light.
1st mary sometimes used the name elizabeth and as we know a lot of different surnames.normans birth address is the same as arthurs 20 taylor st ,gene has the original census for 1911,you were right jan it is them its the way she wrote mary it does look like may but she took 10yrs of her age.john edward was in boer war in 1901 thats why we cannot find him.like us she doesnt know if he was married before ,arthur did not know ,gene cannot find a marriage for john&mary

Hi - just got back from a weekend away (sad isn't it that one of the first things I do is look at this!). My certificates did not arrive yesterday either.

It does seem though that things are getting clearer.

Her's hoping for tomorrow

still a bit confused about Norman's different birth info. so his mmn was Cropper but Gene says (if i have it right)she had seen christening info for date before you have on birth cert?

martynsue

martynsue Report 18 Apr 2010 20:52

i think gene must have seen the 1905 norman ,my norman was born in 1915&gene agrees as norman was 8yrs younger than arthur, gene has a lot of info on mary &has traced her family back quite a way ,but no marriage ,the problem has been with john

jansmith

jansmith Report 18 Apr 2010 20:58

quote from Gene on page 19
* Norman is that his birth was 5 Mar 1912 and he was baptized 7 April 1912 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel and St Patricks RC Church. They lived at 32 Cromwell street and mothers maiden name was recorded as Manning (Mary used several different surnames on her childrens bapisms I have found).*

so she was relating to a 1912!

had this from lancs record office

Thank you for your enquiry. I checked the marriage index on the website www.lancashirebmd.org.uk and found an entry for a marriage for John Jones and Emily Smith in the July/Aug/Sept quarter of 1901 in Oldham with a registrar attending. This means that the marriage either took place at the registry office or in a Roman Catholic or Non-Conformist church. The original registers for Oldham, Our Lady of Mount Carmel (our ref RCOM). are held here at the Lancashire Record Office so I then checked the 1901 marriage register for the relevant quarter but could find no entry for a John Jones.

I think they are trying to say if it is not on lancsbmd it did not happen??????

I had just asked them to look for a marriage of a John Edward Jones between 1901 & 1904 (thought they might not look for a longer period 7 choose what I thought might be a possibility
