Thompson Wildman was born in Preston in 1858.
In 1861 he was in Preston, and in 1871 was in Chorlton, Manchester. He married Susan in 1894 in Manchester, but I can't find him in 1891. Can anyone help please?

I have been in contact with some of these Wildman descendants, but there is a complicated story.

Thompson Wildman married Susan Wood in 1894, who already had a daughter Ellen. I don't know if she was previously married to the father or not.
They had 2 children, Thomas 1894 -1956, and Ernest b&d 1897

Thomas married Esther Green and they had Alfred 1920, Marjorie 1921 and Edna 1923.
Esther died in an accident in 1924 when Edna was still an infant, so she was brought up by different family members. One couple were Thomas's step sister Ellen and her 'partner' James Holland who also had 2 children of their own James Edward b 1903 and Lily b 1908. Ellen eventually married the boarder James Chadwick.
Thomas remarried to his cousin Annie Deacon who brought up the 2 older children, I know quite a bit about Alfred and Marjorie.

However, in the meantime, would someone kindly look up Ellen Wood/Holland/Chadwick in 1939, also Edna in 1939, she married Fred Platt in 1943 and had 2 children who I have met.

When was Ellen Wood born?

Edna (Wildman) is not on 1939 register

There are several James or James E Chadwicks with wives called Ellen in Lancashire in 1939, but I don't see an Ellen Chadwick with that DOB (with or without a James).

Ancestry suggests this is Ellen and James in 1939 - BUT it looks very unlikely, as this Ellen's DOB is completely different:

Edna married Fred Platt in Bolton in 1943, their 2 children were born in Bolton and 1 still lives there.
I did spy an entry for Edna Wildman in the 1939 for a Bolton address, but can't access the details, and don't know when Edna moved to the area. I expect the marriage cert will say where she was living in 1943.

Thomas, Annie, Alfred and Marjorie continued to live in Manchester. Edna and her family would visit them, but had no idea she was related to them.

I don't see the 1939 entry you mention for an Edna Wildman in Bolton.

Your Edna married and died in Bolton - but there's no sign of her there in 1939

The original appears to show Edna as Dittoed surname Ashton when the register was compiled.

At some point, the ditto mark was scored out in red and the name Wildman written above also in red, so possibly just wrongly dittoed.

Then the Wildman has been crossed out and the name Marsh written in, both in black ink

Yes, that was the record I saw, but Edna Wildman married Fred Platt in 1943 in Bolton, so a red herring.

Edna death probably not been picked up so she wouid be a closed record on the 1939 register
