Trying to find Caroline Prizeman Clark who married as Caroline Prizeman Kitcher to John Thomas Henry Clark in 1941 in Hove West Sussex

Flick

Flick Report 16 Apr 2010 11:13

What was her DOB?

patchem Report 16 Apr 2010 18:54

Are you trying to find where she is now, or family in censuses? Having difficulty finding a birth. Have you got her father's name from her wedding certificate?
Thank-you

Janet

Janet Report 18 Apr 2010 12:45

Caroline Prizeman Kitcher was born in 1st Feb1880 as Caroline Russell - bit of a muddle as her mother was Prizeman but never married William Russel until after she was born and he never appeared on her birth certificate. She then married a Albert Kitcher in 1911, then in 1941 she married a John Thomas Clark in Hove , was trying to find out if there was any more family ,as she evidently left the Kitcher family when children born of that marriage were young.

Flick Report 18 Apr 2010 12:53

At the age of 61, she would have been past childbearing

And. unless my maths is out, there were 30 years between marriages, so the 'children' would have been grown up

Given that she was born 1880.Her age on 2nd marriage would have been 61.
Doubt there were any children from that union.

Is it her grandchildren you are hoping to find ?

Just to go backwards, is this Caroline in 1911, pre marriage to Kitcher, but already a widow?
KITCHER, Albert George Head Widower M 42 1869 Naval Pensioner Beer Retailer Hants Southampton
BOWEN, James Boarder Single M 41 1870 Naval Pensioner General Labourer Warwick Coventry
RUSSELL, Caroline Housekeeper Widow F 30 1881 House Keeper London Marlebone
RG number: RG14 Piece: 5583 Reference: RG14PN5583 RG78PN253 RD90 SD3 ED23 SN337 Registration District: Portsmouth Sub District: Portsea and Landport EnumerationDistrict: 23 Parish: Portsmouth Address: The Torpedo 32 Marlborough Row Portsea Portsmouth County: Hampshire
2 children, both alive, have been crossed out opposite Caroline,so that might refer to Albert.

And is she down as Russell or Prizeman on 1881 and 1891?

Thank-you

Mike * Report 18 Apr 2010 14:04

I understood Russell to be her birth name (although her parents weren't married until later)

Marriages Jun 1881 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PRIZEMAN Elizabeth Hannah Dorking 2a 217
RUSSELL William Dorking 2a 217
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Maybe Caroline just chose to be a widow for some sort of status.
She wouldn't still be Russell if she'd married.

Mike * Report 18 Apr 2010 14:08

Is this her birth ?
In which case her surname at birth was not Russell.
Russell was used as her middle name !!

Births Mar 1880
Prizeman Caroline Russell Marylebone 1a 607

My question about Caroline in 1911 being down as a widow, was just to make sure you have the correct person. She is slightly old at 30 for a first marriage.
But if she married as Caroline Prizeman Kitcher to John Thomas Henry Clark in 1941 in Hove West Sussex then it does look fairly conclusive.

I am trying to find out what happened to Caroline Prizeman Russell- on her birth certificate born 1/2 1880 she is named as Caroline Russell but mother is Elizabeth Hannah Prizeman who marries a William Russell , the following year.she then marries ,as a widow in 1911 to Albert Kitcher, she then leaves this marriage when her children are young, don,t know at what age, but eventually marries again in 1941 - trying to find her wherabouts- from approx. 1914? to her last marriage?

The chances of finding anything for those years are virtually nil

And it would have been nice if you had expressed some gratitude for the help people have tried to give

I'm leaving this to you now

Janet

Janet Report 18 Apr 2010 17:59

This is the first time I,ve used the community board so find it a bit upsetting when reprimanded for not thanking people for their replies - of course I'm grateful but tone of some responses, because of this not nice

Flick

Flick Report 18 Apr 2010 18:25

No, Janet, it isn't the first time - you have had postings before about the Hogg/Turrell family

Manners cost nothing - and go a long way to encouraging people to try to help you

According to the birth index she was officially Caroline Russell Prizeman.
She probably grew up as Caroline Russell as her parents married after her birth, so this would be the name she used.
Perhaps she married prior to being Mrs Kitcher and maybe reverted to (what she thought was) her maiden name after husband's death. Unlikely, but you never know.
There are no marriages between Caroline Russell or Prizeman and a Mr Russell.
Maybe she felt "on the shelf " at 30 so invented the widow status.
in 1941 she drops the Russell (her middle name) and replaces it with her birth name of Prizeman.

Marriages Jun 1941
Clark John T H - Kitcher - Hove 2b 904
Kitcher Caroline P - Clark - Hove 2b 904

Check out the birth certificates of children George and Pearl Kitcher. If Caroline was indeed a widow prior to this marriage it would include her previous married name.
