Still not making sense. You said Ada Pearson was born about 1822 in Jamaica. William Pearson and Sarah could not have had a daughter born in 1822.

Are you talking about the Maria Pearson who was in their household in 1851, born about 1837?

How does Ada Maria Pearson Driver come into this??

Ada Maria Pearson was born c1822 in Jamaica.

But you are asking about Sarah born abt 1818 West Indies, the wife of William Pearson from Derbyshire.

What is the connection??

You said that Sarah who married William Pearson was your great-great-grandmother.

Now we have Ada Maria Pearson born abt 1822 in Jamaica, who married John Driver, being your great-great-grandmother.

Unless William Pearson born in Derbyshire had a sister Ada Maria Pearson born in Jamaica, which seems doubtful, I'm not seeing a possible connection. Even then, that would mean you had two great-great-grandparents who were siblings.

I'm completely lost. This search for the person married to William Pearson wasn't just a wild goose chase, was it?

In any case, you can find out for certain who she was by getting the birth certificate of her son John Pearson. You might have to get more than one John Pearson birth certificate to find the right one, but there shouldn't be a problem identifying it once you get it.

That will give the answer to your question of who Sarah was, and it's about the only thing that will.

In case you can't tell which John is yours, I suspect he's John Edwin. John Irwin married in Nottingham, while John Edwin married in Derby:

Teresa, it would be useful to put these family members in a tree here at GR. Two people have William Pearson born 1807 Chellaston/Chelleston in their trees, for example. (Search Trees, the button up top, just look for William Pearson born 1810 +/- 5 years, Derbyshire.)

Just to note, re all of Ann o' GG's Pearson stuff in the West Indies:

Sarah Pearson was a Pearson *by marriage*.

Her Pearson husband was from Derbyshire.

So I doubt that *any* Pearson in the West Indies was at all related to either of them -- other than their own marriage and child(ren)'s birth(s).

Once ihs birth is established, his birth certificate will give you Sarah's name.

I can't find a single one of these people in 1861 or 1871. The daughters may have married by 1861, but I can't find a Jane or Maria in Derbyshire with any place of birth like theirs.

Do you know where they were after 1851?

Do you know whether there were any more children born after 1851?

Which of the childen is your ancestor, and where/when/whom did he/she marry?

Where are they all in 1861?? Can't find 'em in a census.

The question is whether they had any children after 1851, in England. If so, the child's birth certificate would give Sarah's birth surname.
