My great uncle George Harrison b. 23/08/1882 in Stanhope, C.Durham, younger brother of my grandfather. He is on each Census from 1889 through to 1911 where he's shown as being a locomotive fireman. I can find no trace of him after that. I found him by chance on the 1889 Census as no living members of the family ever heard him mentioned. He could have been in WW1, but with no regiment to check .................... He could have emigrated, but where to start looking. I have checked Death records but he doesn't appear. Does anyone have any ideas please ! |

Do you know if he married? Also I take it the parents are William and Mary? |

He may well have emigrated. My gr-grfather was a railway fireman in Nottinghamshire, and immigrated here to Canada in 1905. There was a boom in railway building in Canada all around that time. |

Clever Alan. So a pension record means he survived the war. |

The WW1 record provided by Allan is probably not your George as his age on enlistment in 1911 is 18 years 2 months your George would have been 29 |

Janey, I dont know. All I did was enter known detail into general search and when I saw how many GHs, I went to Military and looked thru the GHs for a likely candidate. Yes, the Pension Record means he survived. |

No George Harrison in the CEF with a birthdate anything like right -- the search results show birthdates, fortunately. But Sheila, in case of error, you could go through them checking next of kin and such. That site is free access and easy to use. |

Thank you all so much, unfortunately none of the George's found seem to be right. My George's parents were Henry and Lydia, he was the youngest of six, the others being Henry, Fred, Meggie, Agnes & Rhoda. He is definitely on the 1911 Census, aged 28. Maybe some mysteries are not meant to be solved !!! |

Also, I have George's birth Certificate, and the Registrar was his father, Henry Harrison |
