Hi Sylvia - welcome to the night shift (I'm here because OH watching footie)

That * means she also had at some point the name Hughes. Sometimes shown when marrying under eg Snape name but father named as Hughes

Marriage shown with both * on p2.

easy to get lost now with what has been found and what not

Madmeg - I can't remember those names from original thread

Don't think I actually popsted on it but was watching it

Madmeg

Madmeg Report 16 Jan 2011 23:02

Sylvia, Lancashire Ann already found that. Always good to confirm, though.
So definitely the right person.

Two of us (her indoors and me indoors) have suggested Robert gets the marriage cert of (Sarah) Elizabeth Snape and George Dean. Can't see any option. As said, too many variables with the Hughes family.

go to that site I gave you, and search through the images for Manchester St Philips, July 1 - September 30, and you'll find the actual image of the Parish register

THE certificate!

You can I believe save it to you own computer, or print it off if you so desire

I'll see if I can find the page number for you ... I neglected to make a note of it

EDIT ...... it's image 126 of 260

Was it Florence Annie, 1906, Salford? I think so.

She being the fifth child of Grace in 1911, where her husband only recognised 1 child, presumably George, and Grace had 5 kids. Somebody please confirm I am right.

I cannot find, and nor can anyone else so far, in 1911, John Edward (Jack according to Robert) b 1903 Alfreton, Cyril b 1904 Belper, amd Florence Annie b 1906, Salford. Robert would be pleased if we could find some info, but I go back to my earlier post and think he has to research Homes for these kiddies.

Hi Janey - No, the tree owner didn't know anything about Cyril, which seems odd when you consider that Cyril and John Edward gave the same address on their marriage certs. I also believe that she had just seen John Seal on the 1901 census the same as we have. The last time I looked she did seem to have gone backwards with John Seal. I didn't examine it closely though.
She kindly sent Robert some photos etc I believe. She seems to know all about John Edward and quite a lot about George, but nothing about the others, apart from the names that were on a census.

Oops - just realised there is a page 4 already.

Thank you for checking those 2 possible Seal/Hughes marriages Ann. I always forget that you can search the Lancashire site.

BDM says Sept 1911 hon.

Sylvia,

Got to the list of Event types and Range ( with volume ) on the site how do i get to the page? lol Dim Me!!

Aaah it says Register of Marriages so I clicked on 1873 to 1883 page whatever it was you said and it was somebody else hehe

Madmeg

Madmeg Report 16 Jan 2011 23:42

Sylvia, we didn't have that info re the marriage - where did you get it please (oh, I see, it was the mormon site - never thing of looking there for later records) - but the William Hughes that JC found in 1861 was a Cutler or Cutter.

So maybe, Robert, you can tell the wife to come in off the streets for a while.

Phew. I need a break.

Yes, I found the Seal/Greystock marriage on Rob's previous thread. I remember now,

So maybe we don't need the marriage of (Sarah) Elzabeth, but rather her birth. But, Robert, if it were me, and I'd got good money off the streets today, I would still get that marriage cert. Possibly the one to George Dean, as he is your ancestor. So worth more to you. Let's ignore this vile Henry Snape.

Sylvia - thanks for that tip

had not tried looking for cert on that site - it's brilliant being able to see actual signatures - better than GRO copies. Wish they did it for my lot in Liverpool as need to see an original signature to prove a second marriage (for a William Jones!!!)

I really can't be doing with these timings on threads. 20 minutes ago is of no use. 19 minutes and 22 seconds is different from 19 minutes and 30 seconds. It is doin me ed in.

I think I have lost the plot.

Now. Christine, the person I have found on Ancestry has a group of Seals, including John, but they don't link up to anyone else. Is that your understanding too?

Yes Meg, that's why I didn't study the Seals too much. I couldn't make sense of it :)
p.s. The only Seals that aren't on there are performing ones:))

Oh Sylvia - I would love to have a look but I must be thick. I get to the site, scroll to Europe, then all I can find is marriages (no counties).
Hubby is pestering to go to bed now (the footie must be boring), so I'll have another go tomorrow. I've gone in three time already and tried again without success though.
