Thank you for your kind words, MarieCeleste, and for your information.

It's fantastic that I've got as far as Glasgow and back again in a few hours!

Thank you for using your spare credits and finding my ancestors for me.

I can now add so much to my family tree, I'm excited!

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 22 Jun 2011 23:36

Eh? :-(

JoyLouise

JoyLouise Report 22 Jun 2011 23:33

Many thanks to you too, Ozi.

I'll certainly follow the three Elizabeths up.

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 22 Jun 2011 23:15

Well, it just so happens that I had a few spare credits for Scotland's People, and Joyce is a nice lady, so here we go:

William Guest (ship's carver) married Elizabeth Jeffrey on 18 July 1860 in the High Church, Glasgow. She was the daughter of Robert Jeffrey (a miller, deceased) and Isabella (looks like Tittilan). The marriage also confirms that William's mother was Esther Brookes. His father William Guest - a ship's smith.

if you have not got it I would recommend you get it to confirm her parents names before guessing at a marriage certificate of her parents

There is a possibility of 2 William Guests, one withe father William and one with father Edward

This looks like your William & Elizabeth's daughter:

Births Sep 1861
GUEST Isabella Esther W Derby 8b 318

Her birth cert would give you her mother's name.

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 22 Jun 2011 23:00

Joyce, I really don't think Elizabeth McNeal was your William's bride. The parentage and occupations on that marriage is all wrong, and I also found that couple in 1861 (first page).

Those Scottish Elizabeths that Ozi found are interesting .....

Yes, you may need to research Scotland for the marriage, but there are these Elizabeths living in the same parish in 1851.

Has anyone found Elizabeth's maiden name (Scottish-born)?

She can't be the Elizabeth McNeal, can she?

I may have to search around Aberdeen eventually which is where her family came from - so the family story goes. Has anyone any hints for Scottish searches, please?

Yes, I can be a bit dim at times - I never thought about looking at the second page to view postings!

Ozibird

Ozibird Report 22 Jun 2011 22:47

Of course, good thinking MC. I couldn't work out why she thought her posts were disappearing into the ether.

Update:
Well that confirms it Lancashire Ann.

For interest: Liverpool Registry Office is closed for refurbishment (my cousin visited there last week). The records have been transferred temporarily to Crosby (nearer her home!).

We'll try to get a copy of the marriage cert as you suggest - but think we may have to find a Scottish marriage.

Ozibird

Ozibird Report 22 Jun 2011 22:31

Perhaps this marriage, and going by daughter's name on 1881 possibly married Charlotte.
