Please will someone with access to out-going shipping records check for 2 people surname ROONEY travelling on a ship from Liverpool?
I have been told 2 females went to America and would like to know if they were on the same ship please. A free search suggests there was a Thos. and an Ellen.
Did the ship call into Ireland?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Thank you Kath...
Hearsay is that 2 Irishborn ROONEY sisters went to America "never to be heard of again" I'm trying to search for possibles for females we cannot yet track.
I was hoping Thos. might be Tomosina ( unsure spelling) who was born in Co.Cork in 1868.
I also can't account for what happened to her sister Henrietta b. 1870.
In 1911 census, their mother says she has 9 children, all living. We only know of 8, so there is another child to find in this family yet and we wondered if the 9th one could have been one of the mystery sisters.
Dates and destination are unknown, but OH ( it's his side ) found Ellen and Thos when he searched for female ROONEYs travelling to USA.
Thank you for helping.

Choccy Thank you indeed. That looks very promising and could quite possibly be the missing sisters.
Would it be possible to see the 2 images of the manifest please?

Maureen Thank you... That looks a really good lead, as Henrietta's father was Henry !
I will pass the information on to my husband, who has been burning the midnight oil this last week tracking this family after he got a small lead and one thing led to another.

Hmmm...on the 1910 census there's a Henry J Rooney age 36 listed right before the Henshaws,so maybe not the right Henrietta then.??
Maureen
Edit: Or maybe it is-going by the Old Family search she does seem to have a brother Henry James!!!

Maureen Yes, yes ! .... I have just come back upstairs after telling OH of your previous find...and now there's more. This is absolutely great. Husband is delighted, thank you.
I only had a quick look at the marriage outline and didn't notice the bride's mother's details. She was indeed Sarah Jane, so that all looks really good.
We don't have any further information on Henry James, so it looks very much as if you found him too.
Many thanks.

Hi Gwyn,
Sorry-breakfast dishes were calling me!
I was a little worried about Henrietta's age on the various US census, but I think she was just chopping off years to appear as young as her husband!!!
Sadly,it looks as though Henry James has died by 1920. 1920 United States Federal Census about May Rooney Name: May Rooney [Mary Rooney] Home in 1920: Salem Ward 6, Essex, Massachusetts Age: 38 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1882 Birthplace: Ireland Relation to Head of House: Self (Head) [Head] Father's Birth Place: Ireland Mother's Birth Place: Ireland Marital Status: Widowed [Widow] Race: White Sex: Female Home owned: Rent Year of immigration: 1906 Able to read: Yes Able to Write: Yes Neighbors: View others on page Household Members: Name Age May Rooney 38 Helen Rooney 12 Dorothy Rooney 10 Eileen Rooney 7 Kathleen Rooney 5 Source Citation: Year: 1920;Census Place: Salem Ward 6, Essex, Massachusetts; Roll: T625_697; Page: 5B; Enumeration District: 278; Image: 404.
Good luck!

Choccy and Maureen,
Thank you so much for this extra information. I have left my husband to delve into this Irish side and now the information is coming so fast. This week he has found another ROONEY descendant in Australia and has been able to put 2 cousins in their 90s in touch with each other, after a lifetime of not knowing of the other's existance,, so e mails between them are going back and forth thick and fast.
What a week. Many, many thanks.

The GRO(I) index thru 1958 (excl N. Ireland post-partition) is available at: https://www.familysearch.org/s/collection/list#page=1®ion=EUROPE
One can purchase certs (or cheaper still, the uncertified images of the rego) via: http://www.groireland.ie/
The Irish 1901/1911 censuses are free at: http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/ [Not heard of any release dates for next census (=1926 in both Irelands)]
Most City of Dublin parish registers are free online at: http://www.irishgenealogy.ie/ [There are also Carlow, Cork & Kerry OPRs there too]
The above FS link will lead to Choccy's baptisms too. For US census, use https://www.familysearch.org/s/collection/list#page=1®ion=NORTH_AMERICA
The record's linked to the image in US 1900. The 1890 was 99.9% destroyed by fire, and there's not enough source info to find the 1910 without going real geeky. For 1920 (sim 1930) look up at: http://www.archive.org/details/1920_census The last 3 digits of the LDS film # match those of the NARA reel #. Guess an image # (it's 900 in 1910) - look up a name on that image and adjust your guess.
Here's the geek-free 1910 http://www.archive.org/stream/13thcensus1910po587unit#page/n900/mode/1up Note both families are at 28, Upham St, Salem.
