In that census that Glitterbaby has posted it lists his mother as a Charwoman. The other children that are patients have their father's occupations listed. Does that not look like he may have been illigitimate?


Or perhaps his father was deceased by the time the 1891 census was taken?

Been looking at the earlier census

Several Henry Townsend born in Somerset but not yet found one that claims to have been born in Bridgewater or Bridgwater

On that 1891 census Henry is a patient at St George hospital. His age is down as 1/2 to which I suppose he is 6 months old.

Rootgatherer has put his birth up.

I am having trouble with Ancestry today and am packing it in now!!!!!!

I can't get into the old search which I much prefer.

Have traced Henry Snr to Army records 1880 end of his service
nothing after that.My grandfather Henry( his son) born 1889Newport Mon is recorded as having a Guardian Mary Brice Miller on his boarding school entrance records in 1901 census in Sussex .I obtained this info via an entry record from the Uni of Notre Dame
USA relating to Xavarian School in UK.
His Guardian appears to be a VAD helper medalists in WW1.
Of some means with property in France be-ing requisitioned for
WW1 nurses to take convalesence. In UK she lived in Queens Gate
London.Did Henry snr die in WW1 or was she related to to the
family? It is a real brick wall puzzle.

This Henry Townsend that I put up earlier in the coldstream guards is unmarried?????? on the 1881 census.

Strange if thats their marriage in 1879.

I was going by the fact that Carol said Henry was a beer house keeper.
